While we wait for the official tethering from AT&T, it appears that Blacksn0w (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/../blog/blacksn0w-is-live/2009/11/03/) brought more than just carrier unlocking goodness today. With the use of Blacksn0w, you can also activate unauthorized tethering using iPhone OS 3.1.2. We in no way are recommending and/or suggesting you go this route. AT&T will likely be contacting Cupertino for a software update pronto that disables all the hard work of Geohot, the enterprising young gentleman who develops all this crazy software.

The usual disclaimers in tow (if AT&T finds out your tethering, you’ll likely have some explaining to do along with pretty earthshattering data charges), Mobile Crunch has a tutorial on how to enable tethering on an iPhone 3G or 3GS running 3.1.2 (http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/11/03/tutorial-how-to-tether-on-an-iphone-3g-or-3gs-running-os-3-1-2/).
Let’s hope this encourages AT&T to announce official support in the near term and let’s make it affordable.
