Nope, update to 3.1.2 and run the new RC3 blackra1n. Once that's done, you can install "sn0w" to unlock your device. Also, ensure you install "Cydia," too.

Yeah, I put my AT&T SIM back in it. Resetting network settings fixed VVM but not WiFi. No networks are showing up. It doesn't find it with manual input either.

I know WiFi is still good on the phone, because WiFiFoFum is showing my network as well as my neighbors.

That is very odd Europa. Worse case is restore and rejailbreak. First you may wanna try a quick hard reset.

Yeah, it was fine.
I just got it to connect to my network through WiFiFoFum. I'm not sure why nothing is showing up on the native WiFi networks screen.

nobopyon, I've heard both yes and no. There is supposedly even a tethered JB that requires re-jailbreaking everytime you restart your phone. What a PITA! No way would I ever do that. So double check some of the threads here to get a more clear answer.

I had a Cydia "issue" as well. It didn't download everything and an error message came up. After restarting Cydia, it seemed to clear itself. Blackra1n came up and asked if I wanted to update to have the ability to install Blacksn0w. YES, I did.

depending on the type fo sim you have inserted into your phone it will tell the carrier. mine says at&t because thats the type of sim i had in. europas said t-mobile becaus she inserted a t-mobile sim card.

Success with Blackra1n RC3. Everything still works, including internet tethering! :ok:ok

It appears as though it is still a tethered jailbreak (for the newer 3GS). Not sure if Blacksn0w does anything about that or not. Haven't gone that far with it yet, since I don't really have any need to unlock.

Hookem, you may want to delete Rock as a lot of people are complaining about crashes with that app. You may have to un-jailbreak and re-jailbreak. Europa thought she had fixed her issue but it came back. You can wait a while to see if anybody with problems finds a solution.:dft006:unhappy

Wifi is back, Cydia now starts but crashes same issue with Rock. If I Uninstall BR, then reinstall will that do the trick or do I have to go through the motions of restoring ect....?

I just ran blacksn0w through Cydia. It worked like a charm. I cannot verify it as I don't have a T-Mobile SIM card available now but I have no issues with Wifi connection after running it.

I will test almost anything that comes out. I'm on AT&T but I still unlocked my iPhone with blacksn0w so I can actively stay up to date and answer questions regarding the process, etc. If I've done it myself, it's easier and more trustworthy to give advice about.

You're right though, other than people not on AT&T wanting to use the iPhone and for resale value, there are no other perks.

I've got the same thing showing. I've seen this happen on other applications in Cydia before. It eventually will disappear.

Blackra1n RC3 RE-enables the built in tethering that came with the 3.0 software. The one that 3.1 got rid of.

Or you can still use MyWi or PDANet or any of the rest of the options. This just gives you a good free option for USB or Bluetooth tethering.

I have changed my position on Blacksn0w. Do not install unless you really need to unlock. At first all was good after snowing. But then my Tethering became unstable, email was not connecting to the server very well and Safari was not able to connect to internet. After rebooting a couple of times, things got better, then worse, so I decided to reset network settings - big mistake.

Phone got stuck on the 'apple'. Tried everything I could in regards to rebooting. Finally turned on Itunes, plugged in phone and held Home and Power button down long enough for itunes to recognize the phone as entering recovery mode - without forcing recovery mode itunes would not recognize phone. Now it has the itunes/USB logo on the screen and is downloading 3.12 in a restoration attempt.

Krunk, here's what I did; updated blackra1n, ran blacksn0w, turned the phone off, removed the AT&T SIM, put the T-Mobile SIM in, booted, disabled 3G, and then waited several minutes.

I have zero problems. I followed the blog that was posted on Geohots website. I have the original blackra1n jailbreak and I kept the blackra1n app on my phone.

I updated my app and installed the blacksn0w unlock and all is well...

I can't honestly say how much of a legend this guy is, everything is so simple. I would love to take this guy for a pint.

My T-Mobile SIM does not say 3G on it. The iPhone is not compatible with T-Mobiles 3G network, so you have to disable 3G and use Edge.

Mine doesn't work either. I am going to try to remove then reinstall via Cydia and see if that solves the problem.

On the updates for blacksn0w it says "15 seconds faster". What does that mean? I'm using mywi right now, how does native tethering work and is that an update in blacksn0w? Is it faster and easier. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hmm anyone else having a problem with the Wifi? it was fine at first then went off and I done a network settings reset and it was fine but now everytime I turn the phone off it messes up the Wifi and the only way I can get it to work again is to reset the network settings and restart the phone.

Annoying if it has to be done everytime the phone has been switched off

Yeah i seen she just reset network settings then rebooted the phone and it worked but it didn't for me I have just done a restore and re jailbroken then installed blacksn0w from Cydia and it seems to be working for now I will see what it is like tomorrow morning when I turn my iPhone on.:ok:ok

RossMc, it took several resets/reboots to fix mine. I was really close to restoring, but I finally figured it out.

The key is to reset network settings and immediately follow that with a hard reset. Don't even slide to unlock first. Just press and hold the home and power buttons the second it's done resetting the network settings.

Ahh I have tried over and over again to do it like you have said but as soon as I do that and it restarts after the hard reset I go on to Wifi and it shows no avaliable connections but when I just reset the network settings and don't hard reset the Wifi connections show up and I can connect but when I power the phone off and back on the Wifi comes back disconnected and then no Wifi connections avaliable.

If you go into the "official screenshot thread" that has been sticky'd in modifications I am pretty sure you can find what you need in the last few pages(depending on how you have your display set, mine is set for 75 post per page). I thought my WiFi problems were resolved, but they were back when I woke up this morning. I was just about to restore, and then I found a package in Cydia (Push Fix) that fixes the WiFi, Youtube, and GPS problems after caused by blacksn0w.

Here's specific directions:
Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > Add > http://cydia.iphoneil.net/ > Search > Push Fix > Install > Reboot

So far, so good for me...
EDIT: Push Fix does fix the WiFi problem, but it breaks IM Push.

You can use them for any app you like. Just rename then as a .png as the name shows on the phone.

Well, I got finally got tethering to work after several attemps. I am just tired of waiting for AT&T to get the ball rolling. It's sad to have to Jailbreak the iPhone to get Tethering when I had it three years ago on my HTC Phone with AT&T. I can't wait to see what AT&T will screw up on the 4G version.

I finally got blacksn0w to work... still have No WiFi problem (Got it ever since updating to 3.1)....

If your No WiFi problem seems to be permanent it's really a corrupted baseband. You need to wait until Apple releases a new baseband (to reinstall and fix the baseband) and ultimately choose one of two fates...

Loose your unlock and get WiFi working again in their next baseband update

Stay with your unlock and find another way to reinstall baseband (Baseband installers don't reinstall the same version so...IDK)

I am having some network issues with at&t since installing blacksn0w. When I make a call the call fails, I lose all at&t bars and it says no service. Then service pops up and I can make a call. This happens about 75% of the time I try and make a call.

I forgot to mention, I had two failed calls (at home and that is very rare) and loss of audio during one call right before restoring yesterday.

I think those problems are related to blacksn0w or Push Fix. I have had AT&T for a year and a half and had my share of dropped/failed calls, but I haven't had a dropped call at home since 2.0.1 and I have never had the loss of audio problem I experienced yesterday morning.

I had many dropped calls and audio problems after Blacksn0w was installed. I restored, jailbroke again and reset up phone without Sn0w.

Problem still exists - it is my conclusion that ATT is having service issues. I know non-jailbroke users with the same issues.

Hopefully ATT will step up and take care of their network.
