Dang that sucks.

Did you see the story today about the lady that called the cops to report a drunk driver, and she WAS the drunk driver? Pretty bizarre.

I hope the title of this thread wasn't a joke. Drunk driving is very serious and I never get in car with someone who has been drinking. I will pay any cab fare or call someone so I don't have to do get in the car with someone that has had too much.

Saw this one on the news the other day, gave me the chills.

What is ROFLDILPIPLORL?

The people who get wasted and drive, that is just down right stupid. It is the people that think they are okay to drive just because they are not wasted but are still beyond .08. A $20 cab fare is far less than killing someone else, yourself and a DUI.

i also agree. if you drink you shouldnt drive its stupid. my bf almost died 8 years ago because of a drunk driver. he was driving his car with his friend in it and was hit by the drunk driver. they both had life threatening injuries and was scared to even drive for years after (side note they both lived thank god. hes since started driving my car when he ABSOLUTELY needs to, but otherwise hes still worried.

Sigh... you guys are taking this post a litte too seriously. Im not saying drunk driving is funny or not serious... it is. The video was just very ironic because he works at a Vodka/cognac manufacturer and he was working while drunk, therefore crashing and ruining everything.

Lets keep it light please. We all know not to drink and drive. Sheesh.

London, I am sorry if it came across as that, I just couldn't tell with the title. Did it say he was drunk? I only saw that he was "out of control." I thought that "under the influence" was a play on words since they said he was out of control, I thought they would have mentioned that he "got a DUI for blah blah blah"

"The chain reaction left him very much under the influence of alcohol"

Ambiguous kind of.

Here's my .02 cents.
I have a roommate that could kill a 12 pack and you would never know he had anything to drink. A "functioning alcoholic" is what they call that.
He had one bad night where he got jumped by 5 guys and beaten pretty good, and after that he wasn't sleeping well.
4 nights after getting mugged, he worked till 11 (as a server) and stopped off to see a friend who was bartending. He said (and has remain consistent about this) he had 2 beers and a shot. Obviously for a guy who can function well with a 12 pack in him, this was barely enough to create a buzz.
He was, however, very tired and around 12:30-1:00 am, was on his way home when he fell asleep behind the wheel. He tagged another car and then totaled his into the median wall.
There was a cop 1/4 mile behind him and he went to jail for DUI because it definitely showed up on his breathalizer. He's on probation, quit drinking, and is trying to find steady work to continue to pay his fines.
Talk about a sobering experience. He's very lucky he didn't kill the guy in the car he tagged. He's also very lucky to be alive himself.

I will never get behind the wheel of a car after drinking. If I have 1 beer, I have to wait 2 hours or an hour and a lot of food. I am usually the DD, since I am not really fond of getting drunk anyway. I am also one of those people that if I think you're driving drunk, I'll call it in and follow you till a patrol car can catch up and test you. yes, I am an ass-hole when it comes to this, and I won't make any excuses for it. Don't drink and drive!

Dang Hawk. That is not being an ******* at all IMO, more like responsible. Even though you may have a high tolerance for alcohol that is just your mind saying you are not drunk, your BAC on the other hand..
I have had to hide keys from friends that wanted to leave after a night of drinking, and thanked me the next morning for doing what I did.
I hate this cause this is something that can be prevented in a fairly easy way.

Even though I live within 3 blocks of campus and the bars and such in Gainesville, I bought a handheld breathalyzer for people to use. Granted, it still doesn't mean if you blow a .07 you're okay to drive, but it gives people a better understanding of how drinks will affect them.

It's also a great party favor.

we have one for when we go camping. a) because you can still get a dui on a golfcart and b) its always interesting to see who is double the legal limit after 10 hrs of sleep...which has happened many times

It would be amusing if the said person called the police on you for following them. OR if the said person somehow crashed into you.

If you have a driver, drink until the sun comes up.
I dont get hangovers either, so after i sleep, im ready to operate.

If im driving, then its one drink for me and thats it. The rest will be water.
If at a house party where food will be, and im driving, ill make sure to drink maybe one or two drinks, then eat alot of A)rice or B)bread. To soak it all up. No shots at all of anything if im driving.

The drinking and driving laws are strange in this country. Someone can kill a person while drinking and driving and if ruled involuntary manslaughter you just get 30 days in jail and probation. But if you shoot YOURSELF in the leg at a club you get two years in prison.

Illegal discharge of a firearm.

He shot himself. HIMSELF!!! And he still got two years? Don't you think shooting yourself is punishment enough? He didn't kill anyone. I understand it was an illegal discharge but he didn't kill someone but got a heavier sentance than the guy that did. Makes absolutely no sense and don't even try to defend it!

acosmichippo
11-04-2009, 10:59 PM
The other guy's sentence has nothing to do with it.

Shooting yourself is not a punishment. Someone that shoots themselves clearly has no grasp of the power a frikken gun in your pocket has.
