Just bought this new iMac this past weekend and so far I am loving it very much! I just have one small problem after I download or open a program like photo shop, aperture, ms word, etc or after I do a series of downloads (example 5 albums) my computer will act really sluggish it is doing it right now for some reason. Like the computer can't even keep up as fast as I am typing it has like a 5 second LAG! WTF? Is there anything I can do to fix the problem? I mean clearing the cache wouldn't do much since its a brand new computer there would not be much there correct? I need some help anyone with a mac please help!
I have the worst luck.:dft007:angry

Sorry I haven't noticed any of this on my 20 iMac. I did some heavy downloading right after I got home.

I called apple. They were very understand.
Cleared Caches
Repaired Disk
Seems to be doing okay now he said if the problem persist to call back and we will do a system restore.

Cool, it was probably just a glitch. Keep a log of that call like date, time, and rep's name so that any more problems occur and you'll have more support incase you got a lemon!

Like a windows pc, try a reboot. That helps much of the time, whether on a mac or pc.

Wow and to think I was a little upset that I bought the 20" a month before the new line came out. I have had no problems with this machine! It runs so much better than the quad core with 8GB ram running Vista that I sold to get my iMac! I just hate that I waiting so long before going to Mac.

It could be a weird software thing that Apple is working to correct. I've had my 24 inch iMac for about 7 months now and haven't noticed many problems at all. Hopefully doing what Apple suggested will prevent you from needing a restore.

The problem seems to be with their newly released line of 21.5 & 27 inch models and not the older line that you and I have.

I know there are some good closeout prices out there on apple products but I would strongly reccomend getting the newer one. You get way better specs for a couple more hundred and I am sorry but 1250.00 for a brand new apple computer is CHEAP! I dont care what anyone says.
As for my computer I don't know what else to do I download like 5-6 albums from the computer and the computer totally chokes... I don't know what to do I am aggravated.

i understand, but he wont be using his for much other than checking email, updating his iphone and maybe music if i put some on it. the real work is going to be moving all his crap over which ill have to do. well discuss and decide whats best for him. money really isnt an issue for him, its more can he use it and is it easy for me to teach him how to use it.

What would you do ? I feel like I hit a dead end. Dropped 1300.00 on a computer and now what it useless until apple decides to fix the problem? This is the one thing I hate about buying new products on release date .... There is only going to be something wrong.

If what you have stated above that's all your really going to be using it for then your fine going with a closeout model. If your going to be doing alot of pictures, photoshop, video editing, etc I would recommend the new one. Also if you get a closeout model you won't have the problem that I am dealing with now (lucky!) Im sure you two make a good team and will decide what's best for you! Goodluck and have fun. BTW will this be your first Apple computer?

Connie I got one a couple months ago and it is great. Cj is talking about the new models released just last week. The new mouse rocks!
Cj so what are these greater specs? I mean yeah I know it the 3.06 Ghz instead of the 2.66 Ghz that I've got and yeah you got the 21.5 screen compared to my 20 screen. I got 2 GB ram and a 320 hard drive, did yours come with more ram and a bigger hard drive? I can't remember.
What to do is a really hard call. You don't wanna settle for the old stuff as the larger screen and faster processor are worth their weight in gold. I say choke-slam Apple! They gotta know they have a problem and hopefully within a week or two they'll have it fixed.

The new ones have twice as better specs as the old ones unless you upgrade them yourself.
I have ....
3.06GHz
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
nVidia Graphics Card.
Better Display (LED)
Magic Mouse and Wireless keyboard comes with it.
I mean if your looking at spending and addition 200 bucks look what you get..... Magic mouse and wireless keyboard combo to upgrade along will run you a good 150-160 you do the math.

Just called Apple again since the problem keeps on happening and the lady had me reset my power and unplug everything and so far so good. She did however stat that Apple has received a lot of calls regarding this issue. She said call back in soon as it starts acting funny again and the claim will be escalated to a senior technical support representative. Agghhh I just want this problem to go away.

Patience Cj. Ride it out cause for the same price I paid less than 2 months ago you're getting the bigger monitor, 2 extra GB ram, 180 extra GB hard drive, wireless mouse and keyboard, etc... I'm sure it will be worth the hassle. They gotta do something soon!

Just a little update for all the people tuning into this thread. I called apple once again partition'd the hard drive and did a fresh install as if this were a brand new machine. I just got off the phone with the apple support rep and this is what he told me to do I guess so we can narrow this down to software or hardware issue. I am really hoping this is a software issue so I can be done with all of these problems and aggravating phone calls I have to make to apple technical support. So far so good on the fresh install of snow leopard, although it has only been 10 mins we shall see how things go from here I am leaning maybe towards a software issue but I know that will be complicated issue if its hardware that may a little easier to narrow things down.

im guessing it may be a thing where they told him he had to go back to best buy with it to get it replaced. i dont see why they wouldnt have swapped it out otherwiseThis is exactly what happen. I drove 45 mins to apple store and they said that my directory was damaged and blah blah he assured me that this was going to fix my problem. I got the computer back home and sure enough 20 mins after being on it was back slow again so I called apple retail store and complained once again and they apologized and said they were sorry for the inconvenience and so forth the manager at the apple store said let me see what I can do for you I will call you back I was like OK that's fine. She calls me back 10 mins later and gives me this BS story about I bought the computer from best buy if I need it replaced I have to go back to best buy and take it up with them ...LAME!!!! I scream at the lady on the phone cursed her out and hung up. I called best buy and all they said was sure come get a new one. Took the old one back and picked up a new one. I am just hoping I don't start having the same problem. I got the new one last night and have been on it pretty much since I got it and everything has been 100% perfect I love these machines when they run right but its like I just bought a new one less than a week ago and it should not have done that I am assuming it was a hardware issue since I did everything else and it still was acting up. Let's hope this one is the charm! Everyone pray for me that this one doesn't poop out on me like the last one!

Yeah I felt a lot better after I did that. It pissed me off because when she called me back she said it in a snoby way like ahaha you know what I mean ? F that I am not putting up with that especially after I drove 45 mins away and then all the way back home wasted like a whole evening to come home and the thing still doesn't work.

Misdirecting your frustration to a customer service representative that is only telling you what her boss tells her to say solves nothing. If that really makes you feel better, perhaps you just need to find some other avenues for venting.

Nope. I enjoyed every second of it and was 100% satisfied after doing so. There is not other avenue of venting for me. Sorry
Also that may be easy for you to say. But lets see if you drop 1300.00 on a new computer and 2 days later it poops out and you spend a solid week on the phone with apple wasting countless hours. I don't know about you but for me time is money. Then on top of that the apple rep specifically puts in the notes for my case. "The Unit needs to be replaced we have went every avenue with this unit" I seen the notes. I then make an appointment at apple drive 1 hour away for my appointment with them to last 10 mins and the so called "Genuis" swears my problem is fixed and I get home and turn the computer on and 20 mins later its doing the same thing. I called them back right away and told them about the issues I was having once again and the stupid b*t*h tells me she can replace apples!!!! product it has to go back to best buy when they assured me they corrected the problem 100%
So Dave after going through all of this how would it make you feel? I know how it made me feel. I felt like it was a full time job there for a week.
I like apples product but some of the people they have working for them are straight morons I'm sorry I don't know about where you guys are at but where I am at there just straight sped's.
