I have downloaded a program using uTorrent and I now have 2 folders / files.

1 is a dmg file, that when I click on, lets me open up and instal whatever, the 2nd is a .iso

When I double click on that, the folder "mounts" - in that I see a drive looking icon. In that icon, I see a few .txt files that are readable etc, and 1 .app installer icon. When I try and run that it just doesnt work.

Im a complete noob at this, ive heard you have to mount the iso as an image so my mac thinks its a cd in the drive, but I have no idea how to do this.

Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to install this game from the .app in the .iso?

Im thinking this may be Londons area of expertise? lol

You need a virtual emulator, like Daemon Tools, to mount it so your computer sees it as a disk.

I've only done that on Windows, so I can't really recommend a Mac app.

According to this,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_image_software

, you can mount ISOs with OSX's built-in Disk Utility app. I've never done it personally, so I couldn't tell you how.

Worst case scenario, could I just burn the whole .iso folder to a disk from a PC - then put it into my mac and actually run the installer from the disk?

As long as the files on the disc once the .iso is decompressed are for Mac, yeah, that should work.

Any idea how I make sure that happens? When I open the mounted iso although I cant use the setup .app I can see its a .app file.

Any idea why I can read the .txt files but not the .app file?

How / when do I decompress the files? Before or after i burn to a cd??

Not sure why, but I can tell you when you burn the .ISO file onto a disc in Windows, you can use a program like Nero or MagicISO to do this. It will automatically decompress the files once the image is mounted and burned with the software.

Have you tried mounting it with Disk Utility?

Press command + space on the keyboard, and in the search bar type "disk utility". In this application there is a mount button in the top row of options. Click that and select the .iso file. Click the newly mounted drive on your desktop and viola.

Ive tried mounting via diskutility using the method above. Ive added pics to hopefully shed some light.

1st pic shows the 2 files in a finder window - to the left of that is what appears on my desktop when I double click. An icon for each

The second pic is what i see when i open the .dmg folder - this pkg file can be used

The final pic is what I see when I try to open up the "mounted" iso. At least, I think that icon shows a mounted icon? Im able to read all the text files, but the setup file doesnt do anything...

That installer is for a patch. Do you have the Football Manager program?

Could just be a bad torrent then. You might have to pay for it. ;)

Sounds like a bad file. You've done everything correctly.

ok thanks, ill try and burn the iso to a cd for one last go before I buy a new cd.

So I just burn the files and they automatically decompress onto the cd so mac can read it as an installer file?

Plus if you burn it using a PC, it will still not work. You'll need to burn the .dmg as an image, which can not be done using Windows.
