Bell will be releasing there GSM service this coming week but I have a question. I wanted to buy my GF an Iphone 3g for Christmas and unlock it. Will this be possible with the bell sims? Thanks

The current Firmware isnt even unlockable.

Unlocking isn't a problem, ill just get one running 3.0 (roggers) Im just worried about the bell sim working in the phone.

on nov 4th geohot is releasing unlock...im not sure though about the canadian carriers. i would assume yes, but who knows. i would google it some

Yeah, if you use blacksn0w you'll be able to use it on any carrier (US and abroad). And, blacksn0w will unlock the baseband that is bundled with the official iTunes update to 3.1.2.

Hmmm. Different type of cellular system. I'm not sure if the iPhone can work on a CDMA network. No other phones that I'm aware of are able to be used on both networks - unlocked or not.

I'm on Rogers. Palm Pre is a Bell phone.

Nope, the iPhone is a GSM phone, not CDMA.

Yes. The iPhone is GSM. Bell has always been CDMA and have said they always will be. They've even questioned why anyone would want GSM. It's odd they would release a GSM network when they've been against it for years. They also said they wanted the Palm Pre to fight against the GSM iPhone.

Well, if they do have a GSM network, an unlocked iPhone will work.
