Okay, I've been a BlackBerry user for 3 years, and bought an iPhone 3GS this week to replace my 8830. But I'm wondering if I made the wrong decision. There seem to be so few options for settings in the iPhone.

Or... maybe I'm just an idiot, and you really can change these things. Hopefully someone here can help me.

-Is there a way to change the alert sound to something custom for things other than phone calls and sms? Why can't I choose the sound for calendar alerts and emails myself?

-On every other device I've ever had, I've had the option of multiple ringer modes. More than just "on" and "silent". It's my only phone, so I've always enjoyed having a "phone only" mode. I want to hear the phone ring at 2am if someone needs me, but I don't want an email to wake me up. Is there anyway to add this feature (maybe through a jailbreak customization)?

-When you go to set the calendar alerts, is there anyway to set a custom alert time? Right now I can only choose up to 2 days in advance. For certain things I like to have a weeks notice. I change it now by updating it in Outlook and letting it sync, but that's a pain. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Ballast, yes I think you can accomplish all of those things in your list. I do believe you will have to jailbreak to do them. Jailbreak is really painless. I am not concerned with any of your requests so I can't answer for sure on what apps would be necessary. Wait and someone will be able to steer you right. And in the meantime do some searches here in this forum for you questions as was already suggested. Good luck, I think you made a good choice!:ok:ok

Here's one...

How can you change the screens from icons on black background to a white background? It used to be there... somewhere...

Everything you want to do can be achieved by Jailbreaking. You'll find there is a lot more freedom to be gained.
Check out the iBlacklist app in Cydia for filtering your notifications at night. There are a couple apps in there that let you customize all the sounds.
