after driving 5 hours, we missed 3/4 of a show due to a time zone change, AND I shattered the screen on my phone.

Who were you going to see and what did you listen to on the way home?

When i posted, we were stopped at a burger king still on our way back, so i couldn't go into much detail.

Anyway, we went to Louisville to see Nicole Atkins (again).* We went through Illinois without much trouble… then we had to stop for gas. Now, i have a Proclip mount that my iphone sits in perfectly, and i usually just leave it there for short stops. Except this time, since it had been a few hours since i had a chance to check twitter, email, etc… so i figured i'd grab it and check while the car was filling up. On my way out of the car, i had my keys and phone all in my right hand, and was in the process of putting them in my right jacket pocket while i got the pump hooked up… keys made it… iphone… not so much. It first hit the edge of the car, and then fell face-flat on the concrete. It's pretty F'd.

Then about halfway through indiana, my friend asked me, "Hey, why does your iPhone say it's 7:30, but your head unit says it's 6:30?"

[insert various expletives here]

believe it or not, that made me more upset than my cracked iphone. So, the show started at 8, we got there at about 8:30, watched three tunes, talked with Nicole for a minute, then took off again.

on the way back we listened to a roadtrip playlist i keep adding to. It really helps pass the time.

most roadtrips i do are either north or south... Like Chicago or Dallas. This time it was due east, but Louisville KY just doesn't seem "east" enough to me... so it just didn't cross our minds.

So what's your plan of action now?

acosmichippo

i'm home now. no more roadtrips for a while... at least a week or so.

psylichon

No no, with the iPhone. Going to pay the $200?

acosmichippo
10-31-2009, 02:26 AM
oh... hehe.

don't know. Haven't really had the will to spend brainpower thinking about it yet. I guess since it's under 1-year, it would be the smart thing to do. Unless getting a replacement screen is REALLY cheap...

psylichon
10-31-2009, 02:29 AM
I think it's around $70.... maybe less if it's just the glass.

Getting it on there is the real trick...

acosmichippo
10-31-2009, 02:33 AM
yeah. i'll deal with it later. probably will just buy a refurb.

Are we going to get pics or what?

hmm... i'll have to see if my camera battery still has juice. you've all seen a cracked screen before, though.

if it didn't make reading text such a pain in the ass, i'd just keep it. kinda looks cool.

I was gonna say... That's quite exquisite. ****ty but pretty you could say.

Got a screen protector?

Saverino
10-31-2009, 03:41 AM
Guess the Feather case is more for protecting from scratches?
Sorry about your iPhone and the concert, hippo.

I've always wondered what physics holds the glass together in accidents like this. Always splinters but rarely missing bits...

acosmichippo
10-31-2009, 03:47 AM
I have a feeling the feather would have been plenty of protection... If it just landed rightside-up.

I do have a screen protector, but not on it.

I was thinking the same thing about the cracks. Perhaps an adhesive is involved like windshields?

That really sucks, hippo. My night was kind of awful last night as well due to watching Halloween II. The most disgusting and not scary movie of all time that has no plot at all. I haven't watched the first one but I'm sure it's better than part two.

Aw, I'm sorry Hippo. That's just a sick feeling. Love the case, though - I'm going to go check it out. You're right; if you drop a phone just right you can crack the screen regardless of the case. I cracked my last screen dropping it from a low distance in the house. Hope you're able to get a replacement soon.

im sorry hippo! we had a similar issue. i live in cleveland, and we were at purdue for my cousins graduation. on our way home we were like hmm lets go to chicago. gps said it would take 5 hrs and then 5 home that was perfect! until you factor in the 1 hr time difference. lol we didnt get home till like 4 am and i had to work at 8... i was not a happy camper the next morning

ps i just checked amazon. they have replacement glass and stuff for $15.23 new

Dang that sucks. The time change ruins everything. At the Landing last night we were told that since the time change occurred at 2 AM we would be allowed to drink for an extra hour from the new 1 AM until 2 AM again. They were wrong.

Replacing the glass really isn't THAT difficult if you're good with that sort of thing. I've done it on 2 now and it takes about an hour or so.
