Check out those charts for smart phone market share. This looks very impressive for Apple. What happened to Pre? LOL

Well, Pre as a prefix, means before, right? So their interest built and died BEFORE it even had a chance to make a niche in the market.

What happened to Pre?
Sprint exclusivity. That is what happened to the Pre. It's a very solid phone and once Verizon and AT&T pick it up it will definitely gain some market share. WebOS, like Android, is a platform, not a single phone. I'm curious to see what Palm's market share looks like once they start pumping out multiple devices. Regardless, for a while, I don't see anyone other than RIM having more US marketshare than the iPhone.
More than anything, the drop of the iPhone 3g to $99 has really boosted the iPhone. $99 iPhone 3G on AT&T or $149 Pre with Sprint. Hmm, not really a tough choice.

I think Chris has a valid point about the Pre not having a killer app. The limitations of the Pre SDK might be hampering development of more advanced apps.

You make a good point Kevin. Apps are very important to the success of a smart phone, but IMO being on Sprint put a nail in Pre coffin. Never had a chance.

Starting from scratch, Apple's line has to go up. Still, impressive to get 30% of the US market in just a couple of years, especially considering it's only available from ATT.
For RIM and Palm to stay roughly the same percentages of the overal total, they have to sell more and more smartphones, so their lines are also remarkable.
Another question is, what is the other 23% not shown? Where's the Android line? The WM line?
Hate "reports" like this one. They're geared towards selling the report instead of telling us much. Did they survey the same 4,000 Americans since 2006? And what areas of the country?

I do agree with you. They should be more detailed in how they gather their data and how they conduct their surveys. I assume the 23% not shown is the WM, Android, and others. They probably wanted to only compare the iPhone's nearest competitors.
According to ChangeWave Research's website they state the following:
The ChangeWave Alliance Research Network is a group of 25,000 highly qualified business, technology and medical professionals – as well as early adopter consumers – who work in leading companies of select industries. ChangeWave surveys its network members weekly on a range of business and consumer topics, and converts the information into a series of proprietary quantitative and qualitative reports.
