Hey guys,

I recently dropped and shattered the screen of my iPhone 3G (16 GB), which I originally purchased in September '08. To replace it, I bought a brand new 3G from the AT&T store -- but this time I got the 8 GB version.

Almost immediately after using it for the first time, I noticed that the display/fonts looked slightly different than they did on my old phone. Seems like the font looks a little fatter and fuzzier (i.e., not as sharp/clear).

Does anyone know if Apple changed the display in some way on more newly manufactured 3G's? Or does the display on the 8 GB differ in some way from that of the 16 GB (seems unlikely, but who knows?)?

It also seems that my new phone is running substantially slower than my old one -- music is frequently interrupted when using apps, apps seem to load/operate more slowly, and it seems to have more problems loading webpages (it's not terrible -- just seems to stall significantly more than my old one). Is this because it's an 8 GB instead of 16? Any other ideas as to what could account for it?

Edit: I should add that last Saturday, my new phone completely locked up. When I tried a hard reboot, it acted like it was rebooting but never made it past the Apple logo screen. I tried rebooting several times to no avail. I finally turned it off entirely and let it sit for half an hour or so after which it booted and functioned normally.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Negative. The screen's, AFAIK, remained unchanged in the 3G model, no matter when it was manufactured. The only screen difference was from the iPhone V1 to the 3G and from the 3G to the 3G[S]. Also, if you're noticing slower performance, it has nothing do with the storage on your iPhone unless you filled the 8gb to capacity. You'll want to leave maybe 1gb or less free on the iPhone to maximize performance. Try restoring and setting up as a 'New iPhone' or take it back to the Apple store.

Good luck!

Take it to the Genius bar and have them run a diagnostic.
