Hi all. I am new to forums and pretty much don't know anything about iphones; I own a blackberry ( eek! don't shoot!) . However I'm trying to help out a friend with her iphone. She always used to be complaining about stuff like when she was on the phone, and getting another call, she can't see the other incoming calls. She also mentioned that it would be a little unresponsive sometimes.
She apparently got a virus on her machine and while plugging in her phone to charge, the phone seems to have gotten infected. Now she says she can't use the phone. She knows it's ringing but can't see anything on the screen and can't answer any calls.
I was wondering what is the best approach to fix this situation. I was reading and saw I can reset and restore.
I would prefer to restore but someone was telling me, if restored, the phone will need to be unlocked and jail broken again.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome, first off, there is no known virus' for the iPhone, or OSX - so its doubtful your friends iPhone is "infected"
You can try a reset of the device, you do this by holding down the home and power buttons until the screen shows an Apple logo.
I doubt that will work, so plug the iPhone into iTunes and when the phone shows up on the device list, click it and then restore. You will then have to jailbreak and unlock again - be really careful not to update to 3.1.2 otherwise you wont be able to unlock just yet
If that doesnt work, its a hardware fault, book a genius appointment.

Thanks for the advice. Do I need any files? I know with a berry, I need the berry OS. What do I need with iphone? Is there a firmware file or something? Or it's just a matter of plugging in and clicking restore?

Just plug in and click restore. iTunes should then tell you an update is available, dont install that update.
When its been restored, just jailbreak and unlock.

Doing some more reading. I'm going to get the 3.0 Firmware and just update it to that and jailbreak it.

Are you not already on 3.x? Sorry I just presumed. You can jailbreak and unlock 3.0.1
