I just bought a 32g iPod a week or so ago. I like it so far, except for how quickly the battery runs down. So far, because I haven't loaded any music on it, I've just been using it to check out some apps and games and surf the web. I can eat halfway through the battery in just a couple of hours. Recently I've been turning off wifi when I don't need it. It came loaded with 3.0 software, and I've read that 3.1 helps with battery management. I haven't upgraded yet because I haven't decided if I'm going to hack it just yet. If 3.1 helps noticably I may just upgrade now and wait until whenever to hack it.

Comments? Suggestions?

Well, as I understand it, the break for the 3G Touch running 3.1 is tehered. And if I understand what that means correctly, every time you turn on the ipod it needs to be connected to your computer. That doesn't sound very practical. Am I correct about this or am I misunderstanding something still? I was going to wait until the break becomes untehered, but after reading the sites it sounds like this is as far is it can go.

no, it is tethered but only if u lett the battery completely run out or completely power it off and then on, otherwise ur fine u may sleep and wake, but dont die!

Ah, I see. Well I do power it off when I know I'm not going to be using it for a while. How much - or little - power does it use when it's sleeping, relatively speaking? Is it very little? I suppose I could get an AC adapter for when I'm using it around the house. Jailbreaking it is very tempting. Lots of cool stuff out there.
