Ok so I looked and found no option for back up in itunes vista. I did find the itunes music and artwork folders with all the music.. however I then reinstalled itunes after the u/g to win7 it only found some music.. I dont want to recopy everything.. (I did copy the music folder so I have all the music)

Do I need to move the music into the public music folder first and then reinstall itunes so it will find it?

Any suggestions?

thanks a bunch,
Steve

I didn't do anything but install Win-7. I went from Vista 32 Ultimate to Windows 7 64 Ultimate and after I downloaded and installed iTunes 64 version (and let it update) it went and found all my old stuff from the Windows.old folder that Win-7 created.

One thing though is that the new iTunes will see the iPhone, iPod ..etc as new devices not associated with it. It's like going to a new computer from an old one but all your music is on the new computer. Hope that makes sense.

He's correct above. Check on the root of your C:/ drive for "Windows.old" - You should have your stuff in there.

Thanks guys, but I did a clean install-I wanted to completely eliminate vista and the other cr@p they try to shove down your throat. I did not feel like copying/backup itunes to a cd or dvd. I have almost all of my music on an external drive in a few folders, as well as all the other back up files I needed. I had just pulled in the albums and or songs I wanted. I tried the touch copy program - it has a trial, but I am not exactly sure how I shoould import. It can add #'s to the song titles.. I dont want to change it. I think I will end up pulling just the albums and song again if I cant find the right copy solution.

BTW win 7 sure seems to run better than vista did on my lappy. quite a bit snappier.

Faster startup etc.
totally worth the price of the u/g

Here was the best thing to do. Copy your entire iTunes folder from My Music inside My Documents. (that way you have everything including playlists, album covers etc). When you reinstalled iTunes. Replace the iTunes folder in My Music with your backed up folder.

Also, you want to back up the Apple Computer folder in C:/Users/YourName/AppData/Roaming/
Replace that folder. That way you have your iphone, ipod etc syncs/backups. Your devices will automatically recognize your machine and sync automatically.

You may also want to copy the Apple Computer folder in C:/ProgramData/

looks like I did get it backed up. copied the itunes folder with the music and everything inside. :)

should be up and synced again!

BTW the touch copy software works stellar.. it has a 15 day 100 some trial.. so if anybody needs it, it does work.

Thanks,
Steve
