iPhone doesn't like wifi password

I just got an iPhone and can't get it to accept the password for my wifi at home. It seems to think the password is too short (it's 6 characters long). Depending on which screen I'm trying to join from it either just tells me the attempt failed, or it won't even enable the "send" button.

I've tried entering extra blank spaces before or after the password, but of course that doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

i dont know thwres like billions of other threads with the same problem but they got it resolved so check that...why do iPhone users need wi-fi anyway when they have 3g or edge

Sorry to be a nuisance -- I did try to search for an answer before I started a new thread, but I couldn't find anything that seemed on target.

I understand now that the problem may be that my router's wireless encryption is set up to an arcane, out-of-date standard, which means the problem lies there and not in the length of my password. I'll try to access wi-fi somewhere else to verify this.

As to why I need to use wi-fi, I visit my dad twice a year for about a week each time. He lives close enough to the Canadian border that the cell phone coverage is from a Canadian company -- thus I get charged something like $1.90 per minute for using it. I've got to make sure I can get my online access via his wi-fi.

And there are several reasons to use WIFI over edge/3g when it's available. It's faster, international rates for 3g, sketchy areas where WIFI is the most reliable, and many apps will download ONLY with WIFI.

Anyway, of the billions of issues exactly like this one solved, every search I do comes to this thread. All the other password problems doesnt specifically answer mine, and when I type in password in the title, it's not the same problem. Paraxia, were you able to solve this? Im at my friend's and I'm trying to set her new iphone up and the "join" is greyed out when I type hers in, and then allows me to hit join after a specific number of characters. I had set my iphone up on her wifi months ago with no problems.
