I wonder when/if this comes to the UK, it would be interesting to have a play with one. Check the feature out etc.
Nice find Honda.

It's possible. Looks like GSM versions of the Droid are on their way:

I have to admit, I would like to try out that phone but I just don't like the brand stamping that cell phone companies do. It's a very minor thing, though huge pet peeve, that drew me to the iPhone 3G initially.

I called Best Buy and they said they'll have it in November.

It won't be long, now! We'll see if this one goes the way of the Storm.

Shameless plug, but you can find Droid coverage at everythingandroid.org (http://www.everythingandroid.org). Droid discussion, while ok here, can also take place in our Android forums (http://www.everythingandroid.org/forum).

I don't think I'm ever gonna own a droid, so I'm not really in to discussing it. I just wanted to update folks on the 'coming of the iPhone killer'.

i definitely don't see it going the way of the Storm. The Android platform has alot to like. However, I'm gonna have to try one before I even think about comparing it to the iPhone.

Just watched a walk-thru video on the android forum. Doesn't seem as user-friendly as the iPhone. I can't see the casual soccer mom using this phone. I do, however, see them using the iphone. A lot.

I wonder about the apps. I know Android Market boasts 10,000 apps, but are they at the level of iPhone apps. That's been my beef with the Pre. It lacks the killer app or apps needed to compete with the iPhone. Going to fire up my G1 today and see what's out there.

Is the problem with apps on the Pre because of limitations imposed on developers as far as the Palm SDK?

Not being a developer, I can't say for sure. HTML/CSS, while easy to code, might not the way to create robust, native apps. Honestly, I don't know if this is the case. I've seen some developers allude to that.

Here are some more hands-on videos. You raise a very good point regarding ease of use. Nothing has been as simple to use as the iPhone. Granted it's a different OS than what we're used to. And, the Droid uses the basic, Google Experience, interface. But minus that learning curve, can the Android OS provide the end user the ease of use we've come to expect from the iPhone? How would users feel about the Droid if it came with a GUI like the HTC Sense? Do trapped Verizon users mind a little more complexity for a smartphone as the price of not having to leave VZW and go to AT&T?

I think I will get one and switch to Verizon. Much as I love my iPhone, I HATE AT&T! Very poor service in Peoria IL. Still Edge network in a city of 120.000. Inexcusable. We use our phones to communicate in the hospital in which I work. I am sitting here in the lounge, with NO service at all. Buddy sitting right next to me has 5 bars and 3G on his Verizon Blackberry. No Brainer for me. I have just been waiting for somebody with coverage to come out with a decent phone and I think this may be it.

dont blame you at all. I've always thought that carrier was more important than phone. I would never stay with AT&T just to keep the iPhone if i didn't get reception half the time. Verizon's coverage is hard to beat around here in North Texas as well, especially in the rural areas where they are very solid and AT&T is spotty. But for most places I spend my time AT&T gets the job done.

Same here. As long as I can keep getting reliable connections to the suicide hotline after Redskins games, I'm happy.

I read on The Street:
Some of the demerits include its pocket tugging weight. The Droid weights 5.96 oz, or 25% more than the iPhone. In addition to the heft, the phone has angular, pointy corners, a departure from the rounded edges of most phones. And the camera promises far more than it delivers.
It was also stated that the camera pics were a little dark and blurry.

A few industry guys are tweeting... here (http://twitter.com/Gartenberg/status/5241040281) and here (http://twitter.com/joshuatopolsky/status/5240868527).
Must have been a nice event. Sounds like everyone went home with a Droid. Interesting to see response after that warm and fuzzy new device feeling wears off.

Verizon's the same as ATT:
Starting at $40 for 450 minutes, and $30 for the smartphone data plan.
Add the usual fees for text message plans.

A sliding keyboard? Pffft.
It loses to the iPhone right there IMO. I don't care how good the OS or apps or anything else is.
