I installed Snow Leopard on mine when I got home from Best Buy. The disc was in the box and the only difference I've seen is that I got an extra 10-15 gigs free on my hard drive. I only had the computer for like 1 hour before I installed Snow so I have no idea what the difference is. I'm saying this because maybe you have Snow on it and you just can't tell. Maybe someone can tell you where to look to see if Snow is installed.

I have the demo version that apple send's to there retail store's on my computer I bought the last model they had and it was a "floor" model the guy told me they just put it out about 2-3 weeks ago so it hasn't been sitting there long so its got all this bull**** on it and it wont even let me download anything using this software that's on it gives me an error code every time. So the store manager at best buy gave me a copy of snow leopard I have the actually install dvd its legit from apple and everything I just need to know once I have already installed how do I "run" or "boot" snow leopard? I don't understand I wish someone with a little more knowledge would chime in ......

What I am saying is I have downloaded the snow leopard and installed but once I restart the computer it doesn't load or boot snow leopard it brings me back to this stupid demo crap! I would like to setup my computer up as if it were a new computer using snow leopard. Anyone?

Best I can tell is that if you've installed it it boots it. Click on the Apple in upper left hand corner and click on 'About this Mac' then 'More Info' then 'Software' if it says version 10.6.1 then that's Snow.

If you installed snow leopard then you have it installed. It overwrites leopard. Its a new OS. Unless you somehow partitioned your drive and installed it on a separate partition, you should be using it. How long have you had your computer?

You edited while I was writing. Now I understand what you are saying. Do you have any other discs besides the Snow disc? Mine came with Leopard 10.5 disc and also an application disc. So for me I would reinstall the Leopard 10.5 disc first, then the app disc, and then the Snow disc in that order.

No I bought from BestBuy and they could not find the original disk that came with the computer. Thats why he gave me snow. He told me to just run snow and that it would set up as a new computer. simple hhuh?

Styfle he got a Mac that was on display and it is loaded with all the demo stuff. Is there a way to restore the computer as new like a windows unit?

Well if its reverting back and its a floor model, it probably has a modified OS that will revert back to default after anything is installed/downloaded/changed. My high school used something like that. Every weekend they would throw a switch and revert the computers back to stock. Anything not saved to the network drive was lost.

Can I just call apple tomorrow morning? Will they be able to hook me up? Should I just trying and download the snow program again before I go to bed?

Yes this is exactly my problem they told me about it before I left with the computer but he said if I run snow that everything would be okay. What should I do know the bestbuy where I got the computer is 45 mins away so I really don't wanna go back there if I don't have to there were like 3 different people there who told me that this was going to work.

Man I hate to say it but this just goes to show you shouldnt buy the floor model, especially if its a computer. When I worked at Target the only time we were even allowed to sell the floor model was when it was seasonal stuff that had to go.

Dude I would go back to Best Buy and make them fix it. When I bought mine they were going to charge me $39 to load Snow and make sure all my settings were right. I didn't do it. But I know they must have some discs there somewhere and you need the other 2. You need the regular Leopard disc and the app disc. With all their open box stuff they are bound to have them there!

couple things:

Best Buy should be the ones to restore the item to its factory condition before they give it to you. I work there, and find it extremely unacceptable that they gave you a floor model in that condition.

But if you DID run the SL install disc, it sounds like you didn't check the "erase and install" option, so you upgraded the OS while leaving on all of the software and restrictions the apple demo adds on.

In short, if you don't want to deal with it, take it back to best buy (Geek Squad, specifically) and insist they restore your computer.

No doubt take it to them cause even if you reinstall and check the 'erase and install' button, you still don't have the applications disc so all you would have is the operating system.

styfle that did not work man because it asked me for a password and i do not know it and either does bestbuy. WTF!!!@!@!

Well just use linux to wipe the drive lol. Burn an image of ubuntu to a disk and boot off of that.

if you boot to the SL disc, you should not need a password to format the drive using Disk Utility.

I had erase previous "demo" software and re install the snow leopard and it worked fine. It asked me for all my information as if I was setting up a brand new computer and I did all of that and its working perfect!
