Yup next Friday I applied online at best buy and they gave me 800.00 and I am going to fork out the rest and sell my laptop that I currently have and pick one of these monster's up. I am so excited and I can't wait. Is there anything I need to know right off the jump? I haven't been with apple for awhile I only had one apple product in my life and 3 months later it was stolen. So anyways let me know if there is anything I must know and download once I get my new iMac here probably the beginning of next week I will have it. I almost could not resist this can someone tell me if this is a typo on bestbuy's website.

Brand new Macbook only 899.99?

That price is very hard to resist for a decent laptop running snow leopard but I'm going for the new iMac.

It should have just installed SL on top of Leopard. Is it asking you to choose an OS when you boot? It might just be an error that can be fixed by editing a boot system file. Click on the Apple in the upper left corner and choose About this Mac and post the version you are on. SL is 10.6.x. If it is on 10.5.x, it may not have installed the update. You would have had to partition the drive to install SL separate from Leopard. If you did partition it and have both installed, a menu should pop up while rebooting with OS choices, if one is not chosen, the default will boot. Sorry I can't provide more help, I've dual booted Linux and Windows before, but never on a Mac.

Europa, he has another thread in General Discussion, explaining that he has a demo unit from BB and the Demo software is overriding and install. So he has pretty much got to go back to them because all he got was the Snow Leopard disc. He didn't get the applications disc.

Did you move? You were in AZ or NV?

Thanks. That makes sense.
No, I didn't move. I'm in Utah, about five minutes from the Arizona border and less than an hour and a half from Vegas.

Congratulations! I know you will love this. I just recently bought a MBP so there is no way I can afford an iMac right now. I do love those gorgeous widescreens on them. I'm glad you got your issue resolved.

I didn't really want to make another thread but what are some programs that every mac user must have?

I would like to know this too since I'm relatively new to the Mac. I did purchase iWork, but it isn't something that is really necessary. I bought it just to learn the Mac counterpart to Microsoft Office, and I was able to purchase it for 50% off.

Roxio Toast Titanium, Photoshop CS4, Bowtie, Colloquy, Cyberduck, Handbrake, MacTheRipper, VLC, Vuze, and Stuffit Expander. It would be nice (not asking you to do this) if there was some sort of list that describes what each of these software programs do along with are these free or cost money? I know I can get photoshop for free because my girlfriend has a student one all I will need is a serial I can get one of those.

I mean that some of what is listed I have no clue about such as bowtie, so I type the word in google search and this pops up:

Bowtie is a free application that allows you to control iTunes with shortcuts, submits your songs to Last.fm, and sports a very simple, yet very powerful, ...
bowtieapp.com/ - Cached - Similar

So within a matter of 5 minutes I have a really good idea of what it is and if I'm interested or not.:dft012:wink
