All:

Is it safe yet to upgrade firmware to 3.1.2? I have been reluctant to do this on my 16G Iphone 3G based on all of the negative posting I have seen on this forum.

Waiting for the "all clear" siren from those in the know and thanks. You all have a great and informative forum here!

Absolutely. What firmware version do you have now? If you require an unlock to use your iPhone, do not upgrade to 3.1.x. I'm running 3.1.2 with AT&T and jailbroken and it has actually eliminated all my lag problems I had with previous firmware (i.e., text-lag).

If you are using the help.benm.at profile hack for tethering, you may want to wait. Upgrading to 3.1 wipes out that ability.

I've seen this question all other the forum. Absolutely. if you have 3.1 then i highly recommend doing so for it fixes most of the bugs and helps it run smoother. make sure to use pwanagetool 3.1.4 with the ORIGINAL firmware and then do a special restore via itunes. that the way i did it and that's the way i recommend doing it because i'm not familiar with blackra1n. i tried running it and i actually think it locks the phone first then when you run it it jailbrakes it.

i don't get what the big deal is with tethering?

he doesnt wanna jailbreak or unlock...he just wanted to make sure it was ok to update because there were issues...i think kaba covered it.

Let's not get offensive to others in the forum. Sometimes when people read a post, and then craft a reply, they may forget or overlook a specific piece of information. Computerfox clearly elaborated on kaba's post by adding the jailbreaking information.

WRT accusing somebody of posting to get your post count up, I find that offensive, and unacceptable. If that's his business, so be it.

Let's play cleanly in the sandbox, or not at all.

i have had my 3g 8gig iphone for a couple months and im having trouble jailbreaking it even watched videos from utube and still no luck i know with several ppl being able to jb it it obviously something im screwing up i have already upgraded to 3.1.2 i dont need to unlock just jb any help would be greatly apreciated i am running windows vista on my laptop

at this time if you've updated via itunes you can't jailbreak. you would have to have had a jailbreak or not updated via itunes for it to work. i'm sure dev team is working on this as we speak :)

Computerfox, that information is absolutely 100% incorrect. He said he is running Windows and does not need an unlock, therefore he can use blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1.2 no problem.

Where are you getting your information?

Dave, he is wrong. If you updated to 3.1.2, go to: http://blackra1n.com and download blackra1n.exe (click the windows logo at the bottom). You can use that to jailbreak your iPhone.
