So I exchanged my iPhone today and walked out with, what I thought was a perfect phone.

I was watching a show on the iPhone a while ago and noticed two small, bright spots at the top of the phone.

Here are some pictures to describe what I see.

Can someone tell me what exactly these are?
I am hoping to exchange it yet again tomorrow.

I have those too. Not pixels, pixels ar eon the screen. I usually only see those when its dark, very dark. It could just be openings in which the glow from inside is escaping.

Well, as you can see...these can be seen both in the dark and in the light.

I hate this.

Hey everyone,
Just joined, awesome site! Everyone seems real helpful to one another. I have the 8gb version, and noticed those marks today even before reading this thread. I was actually thinking about exchanging this tomorrow, but it seems like this might be a general issue, what do you guys think. P.s. this is my 4th iphone, 1st came with a piece of the top glass missing, 2 and 3rd had dead pixels. I also have the white dot version. This is crazy how this thing keeps on coming up with problems.

Wow, that really stinks.

I hope they exchange it for me tomorrow, I don't see why they shouldn't.
Having spent a good chunk of money on a phone like this I feel like it should have no imperfections. But that's just wishful thinking.

I'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow.

I also have a little light coming out on the bottom right corner around the same area.

I just don't want to return this thing and get stuck with dead pixels, bad battery, the other problems that would require more then some black sharpie ink and a pin, which would prob fix this.

I like the iPhone too much to ever paint the screen with a sharpie.

I have an appointment at 530 (central).
I'm sure they'll replace it since not only do I have these two lighted dots, but my screen, when pressed on in the lower left side corner, makes a clicking noise.

That's what i'm trying to find out. If there are people who don't have it then it's a defect. To me its almost as bad as a dead pixel, especially when using in a dark room. It's not like the white dot issue where the phone has to be tilted and 3 inches from your face to notice and can live with.

edit: Apparently this seems to be widespread issue. Here's the macrumor link

I wish people would stop going around saying "everybody has this problem" etc. because 99% of the time it's UNTRUE.

I don't have the white dots (LCD 5# model)
I don't have the light leakage as in this thread
My battery glows when it's full and I've always had usage data from day 1
My battery lasts on average for 7-8 hours of usage and 16 hours of standby with Wifi and BT on
My call volume is relatively loud (on par with other phones I've used)
Speakerphone is quieter than normal but still acceptable
My Yahoo Plus! account works perfectly with iPhone's IMAP push(send/receive)Therefore, as someone stated, these are normal and anything other than this is a bug/defect or issues with certain batches, etc. Instead of making excuses for Apple, you should get what you paid for and I wouldn't accept any compromises especially for $600. That's just me though.

Ahh, but has your iPhone crashed on various apps? Like when you're listening to your iPod and surfing on Safari... or plotting courses in Google Maps? If so, you do have a problem that everyone else has. :) Oh, and when I say "crashes", I mean the application and not the phone.

Had that once in the beginning but not recently..yes that's probably one of the few common problems. But that's software...people are complaining a lot about hardware issues which I'm saying are NOT the norm.

http://www.macenstein.com/default/iphone_pixel_test.html
go here on your iphone, turn brightness to 100% with auto-brightness off. than go to a dark place go through to colors and look closely to see if any pixel isn't the right color.

this is from http://macenstein.com/default/archives/709

it's how i found out that i had 2, and now i am going to apple tomorrow seeing if i can get it replaced.

Well guys, I ended up doing an exchange today after finding out that there were people who did not have this problem. The guy at the genius bar saw the mark even though it was faint and replaced my phone. I have to say that the customer care has been superb. I did find out however that if a problem like this comes up after the 14 day period, apple won't give you a flat out exchange but will send it out and you will have to pay for a replacement if you want one. The one I have now does not have this problem, and I believe it's a 7 series but did not look it up, and prob not gonna :tounge:. Lucky number 5!!!!!! LOL

Clyde, I told myself that if this one had the same lines I would just put up with it. Even though it's a problem it seems to be a widespread problem, I don't think it's worth going through the stress of another phone unless it has dead pixels or something. Do you know if it's a 7 or 5 series?

Gino,
From my understanding you can get an exchange at the store if it is within the 14 days ( I don't know if you have access to a store as easily as I do though). After that period it will have to be sent out, and you will have to pay I think $23 or $29 (something like that) for a replacement until you get yours back. I think this probably applies to any manufacturer defects found after the 14 days, but not sure. Give apple a call to be sure.

JPizzzle
07-16-2007, 08:51 PM
After lookin at my phone again I now see that mine has a very faint line on the right side, but it is so faint it can't be seen straight on but has to be tilted to the right to see it (perhaps its more under the chrome then the last one), so it does not show in the dark when using. So I guess this problem is still showing, but at diff levels, since this line is much much better than the last one, and is only on one stop as opposed to 3. Anyway i'm done obsessing and ready to enjoy my iphone again!
