View Full Version : My new Lockscreen!

Took me some time and effort to hook it all up using SSH and stuff, but it's worth it.

That's how it looks when the tabbed are closed.

http://i33.tinypic.com/33jsntk.png

And that's how it looks when you open them to view the missed calls and the SMSs (as well as emails).

Used Mom's phone to text and ring lol.

What do you think? On the top right corner you can see many icons (beside the charging battery). That's for new Mail, SMS, and Missed Call. There is also one that appears when you activate Silent mode. So now my iPhone has pretty much a lot of things the HTC has on its Home Screen :). I was offered to trade my 3G in with a HTC Touch Diamond 2 with box, accessories, and warranty (which is pretty awesome) but I prefer my 3G!

I am still trying to set Egypt's weather but it's hard because I can't find a Zip code for it on the given weather website lol. I need the Zip code so I can replace it with the existing one(s).

The Slide to Unlock, Turn Off, Answer Call, etc. were changed but I set them back to default. The modified ones were pretty much a single button you just click, no need to slide anything. But I prefer the stock ones.

Is there any effect on battery life?

Where'd you get this from Tarek? Any instructions on setting it up through SSH, etc.?

Thanks!

I have to give you credit for this. That's a way cool lockscreen. I would even think about jailbreaking for it. Great job! :ok:ok

This all seems like a normal lockscreen that I've seen with intelliscreen. What's the difference?

doesn't that make the phone lag?

Not that I've noticed, no.

Thank you. You'll love it.

Thank you very much :). It's pretty good.

Yes, sir. It is very awesome. It's pretty tiring but very fun to do. I would have posted the link but I am on Windows and I have that link bookmarked on Macintosh. Too lazy to switch or search :p. Plus I was watching a movie.

The difference is in two things:
1) You don't have to pay for Lockscreen Info (some people hate to pay for apps and some like me would but CAN'T because of where I live),

2) It is really fun when you use SSH and edit and customize every little detail yourself. You'll have to follow tutorials in the beginning (like I did) but now I actually edit some stuff on my own so I can make it look the way I want it. I'm still working on it but it's not easy.

doesn't that make the phone lag?

Not at all.

Very cool looking lockscreen. Still tossed about whether I should purchase Intelliscreen or try the ssh route.....

I think you can get a trial version of Intelliscreen (I had one a few weeks back). Do it and try it out. I actually found Intelliscreen more complicated than taking the SSH route, can you believe that? Plus, Intelliscreen just doesn't work fine for me and I heard a lot of bad reviews about it, so it's not really worth the $10.

I have used the trial version and it worked ok.... I'll take another read of the tutorial and perhaps try the ssh method. What program did you use on your Mac to ssh into your phone?

Hold on a minute, I'll switch to my Macintosh since it has it all! I'll link you to the program and tell you how to use it.

Okay.. it's called Cyberduck.

Get it from here http://cyberduck.ch/ choose the right version of Mac OS that you have (Leopard or SnowLeopard) and download.

After installing and opening it, click "Open Connection.." then start editing the settings till they look like this:

http://i35.tinypic.com/14voc21.jpg

In the "Server" field.. enter your iPhone's IP address. To obtain your IP Address make sure you're connected to WiFi. Open settings > WiFi > click the blue arrow next to your wifi connection > and bam, there is your IP Address.

In the "Password" field.. enter alpine

Make sure your iPhone is not dimmed or sleeping, it has to be active all the time so you can successfully SSH into and upload files to it (you'll know what I mean when you follow the tutorial KabaModern posted the link to).

Any more inquiries?

Man I might have to try some of this stuff. I'm currently using Intelliscreen, and I like lots of the alerts and stuff.

Nap - Is the color bars just a Winterboard thing? Looks cool.

They look nice at first, but they quickly become overwhelming. Seriously, do you need to see the weeks weather forecast multiple times a day? It's just too much stuff on the lockscreen for me.

I tend to agree. I installed it basically to do it, and I'll probably go back to my preferred lockscreen later tonight:

Nice. You should move the text to the left instead of in the center, though. Will look cool.

You can remove the weather forecast completely or just tap it once and it will become a small tab that can be enlarged. You can do anything with that Lockscreen. And by the way, the wallpapers change automatically depending on the time zone (morning, evening, night, etc.).

Is that a lockscreen or a SB screen?
If it's a lockscreen, where is the lock icon at the top?
If it's a SB screen, where are the page indicators?

I know how to hide the date and time, but what I am interested in is five icon dock on the lockscreen. I thought that's what you had going on, now I'm confused.

I am seriously loving Lockscreen Info. IMO, it is highly more stable and customizable than Intelliscreen. Here is a screenshot of my current setup, nothing too special but I did have to do a fair amount of SSH/Javascript editing, but nothing too hard:

http://sourtea.com/images/forums/IMG_0028.png

My only concern is the accuracy of the weather. It's 7:22 pm here in Philadelphia and it's telling me it's 57 degrees and partly sunny?! Umm, it's been dark for a good hour or more already....

I think they are always an hour behind. Live weather worked well for me for months and then it stopped refreshing properly. I tried different locksreens etc and eventually gave up because I got sick of seeing on the sun outside and the moon on the phone. Also, it frequently got stuck at sunny and 99° for days on end.

Ah, well I just read in the Javascript file that Yahoo! weather support is currently broken, so they default to "Apple" weather. Mmm, I don't think Apple is too accurate...

I really would like Gruppler to add a Twitter integration. That would be slick!
