The example apps are available, but are only developed in Flash. The implications are obvious, though and a Flash (Flash Pro CS5) with iPhone app development capability will be released later this year...

That may be true, but it still will not the flash plugin that everyone wants. It will be a self contained application that has the flash libraries statically compiled in. The Mono guys are doing a similar thing with MonoTouch and Silverlight.
