Well I had to ghetto rig iTunes to work properly because I'm running XP 64 bit so I had to do some things to make 64 bit iTunes run on XP. Well, I get on and everything works good, but It asks me to update to the newest version on my iPhone, so I let it do its thing. I get an error (1602) and now the phone just shows the iTunes button with a USB cable underneath it. I've tried un-installing iTunes and re-installing it and nothing happens. I can't use my phone or anything. It wasn't jailbroken, I just got it yesterday. The install hardware wizard is popping up and saying my phone is in "recovery mode".

I'm running 8.2.1.6 64 bit iTunes, it's the only version I could get to work on 64 bit XP.

1-i really recommend retrying to get the newest version of itunes or don't update with that computer.
2-if all else fails, manually download the firmware, go into itunes and restore by picking the firmware on the desktop.
sounds like you're not jailbroken, but that usually happens either because itunes isn't up to date or itunes caught the jailbrake so you loose the jailbrake.

? it's not the usb port because itunes is reading the phone, but it couldn't update it to 3.1.2 because itunes wasn't up to date :)
