More of a pondering thought than an actual question b/c I know no one knows the answer to it....yet....Will engraving be offered if purchased online?...

even if it wasnt offerend online couldnt you get it at like any engraving store?
the ipod can have engravings online (i think) so it would make sense if they did it for the iphone too...

Why pay someone when you can easily do it yourself:

Yeah, if you have a problem with the device, I don't think the Apple Service Centers are going to accept delivery of any iPod or iPhone with a third party bomb installed. I'm sure you'd have to have an authentic Apple bomb installed to not void the warranty.

I'm pretty sure their lawyers wrote this into the service agreements somewhere. Who really reads those things anyway.

Well I'm sure if you have an Apple Pro Care card the iBomb will be installed for free....with full iPhone replacement if it detonates....

How many colors will they offer? If I but the black one first, and then they wind up offering other colors? could I trade it for another?
anyone know?

anyone know? They have only announced black so far. If down the road they offer new colors, I think you will be out of luck. You could always sell your black one and buy a new one I guess .

I'm thinking, yes, they will almost certainly offer free engraving on the iPhone. It's a premium product, marketed, as all Apple products are, at the design conscious. Plus, hard to justify offering the service on iPods costing half as much, and not on their [trumpets blaring] mega-hyped, industry changing, spiffy new product line expansion.

The reality of it, in regards to the "bomb" engraving on the back of the iPod, is that using GPS or something comparable, you'd potentially have the possibility of tracking the person who stole your iPhone...

I'm sure we've all been there before when something was stolen and you thought to yourself "if only I can find the dirty, low life SOB who stole my (whatever)... I'd love five minutes alone with them!!!"

With the iPhone, this could very well be a possibility! :) haha how cool!

You go online and enter your login to apple.com and report your phone stolen.
Then, whenever the SoB tries to play a movie, listen to a song, make a call, check e-mail, or whatever a hologram pops out Star Wars style and warns others of your stolen precious. :D
Oh man I would love to see that.

Or it pops up saying
"IM WATCHING ANIMAL PORN RIGHT NOW!"

I think airport security might have a problem with your iPod.

You know... with the bomb and all...

But is is a very nice touch. Did you use laser engraver. It looks so clean you could offer it to others, I for one would pay to have this done on my 1st gen "brick pod".
