Small planes scare me. The little tiny propeller planes that go from Miami to Bahamas in 15min are so tiny, rough riding and loud. It scares me.

Small planes scare me as well. I used to fly in them all the time in the AF and wasn't ever scared. I was even in one that had an In Flight Emergency (IFE) once. I took a hop to S. Korea from Okinawa in a C-12 and about 10 minutes into the flight and we had to go back down so they could fix they fix the plane due to generator problems.

They had a few IFE's there a week, with Fire & medical personnel dispatched every time, but I only saw one mishap in the two years I was there. I worked in Flight Medicine and was on the aircraft mishap investigation team, so it was my co-workers that were in the ambulance waiting for us to land when we had that IFE, it was kind of funny. Anyway, I never worried about flying in them until I got out of the AF.

i have an obsession with planes to tell you the truth. when i was younger i wanted to fly the black bird, but apparently you can't do that if you have four eyes... :(

hope you had fun. did you decide if you want to make it into a hobby?

It's not a home made hot air balloon, is it?

I don't mind small planes. I've gone up to watch a buddy skydive, sitting on the floor by the door with a seat belt across my legs. Leaning out of the plane and looking was a trip. I also flew a great deal in several larger planes when I was in the Air Force.

Did you ever fly in an AWAC's E3? I flew in most large AF aircraft & choppers as well, but the E3 was the most fun (radar, computers, cooling system). I layed down in the boom pod on a KC-135 from Thailand to Kadena. I never did get a chance to fly in a fighter or a C-5.

No AWACS, but I was in the pod while refueling a B-52. I've also flown in several helicopters (not always Air Force). And, of course, the good old C-9 medical. All sorts of cargo aircraft. The AF Chief of Staff's jet (I may have that title wrong - it has been a few years).

In Thailand, one day I had the choice of sitting in a tent on the flight line all day or going up in the E3 for 8 hours (basically it was an incentive flight for the Thai's during Cobra Gold). I hopped on the plane, (the first half was computers and operators), headed for the back, chose a seat right under the radar, and fell asleep. I woke up a couple hours later to one of the strangest sounds I have ever heard in my life. The radar was a lot louder than I was expecting.

I puked on an AF plane while taxiing. I might have been hung over. So there. :dft010:smiling

Lol :)

Another cool experience was sitting in the crash seat (I'm pretty sure that's what it was called-it's a little fold out seat between the pilots) during a landing on Okinawa. I'll never forgot how they were pretending to shoot the other planes on the runway while we were taxiing.

Sorry, couldn't let that one slip. :dft011:wicked_smile

What exactly are you trying to say?

I suggest you look at the actual requirements for the air force compared to the Navy. Seriously.

Before anyone decides to jump out and start slamming this thread I think you should back up your knowledge.

I had to pass numerous amounts of exams to do the specific job I do.
Then once I pass, I then go through basic training. After basic, I go through my branch specialization which takes a few months. After all that I have to learn each and every system we have on board a nuclear submarine.

The only thing special in the Air force are the pilots.

Now we're arguing over which service is best? Come on...
