Like sooooo bad.. I am thinking about going and picking one up how are they? I played with one at the apple store and fell in love instantly. I am getting ready to go to school for graphic design and you have to have one so that just gives me one more reason to go and get one. I have been a windows nerd all my life and made the switch to apple one time for 4 months and had just a regular white mac book and someone stole it right out of my house and then after that I never went back because I simply did not have the money. I have an ASUS gaming laptop right now but screw that I want a MBP. What you guys think?

I think you should get a MBP. You'll love it!

You can't go wrong with the MBP. I bought my first one on Sept. 1st. It is the first Apple computer I have ever owned, being a Windows user my entire computing life. I'm still learning new things everyday I use it. It is such a stable OS. I can't get over how quickly it boots up and shuts down (it shuts down in 3 seconds for me). Now that they have Snow Leopard and the new aluminum, uni-bodies I feel it is a great time to buy if you can arrange the cost factor. I bought it all on credit card but have paid it off rapidly.
It is such an elegantly designed notebook. There is something to be said about Apple's attention to detail and their minimalistic design. What is really impressive is the LED screens which are incredibly thin but the resolution is breath taking.

I became a Mac owner on Black Friday in 2008. I just have the standard MacBook 2.0GHz Aluminum but it outperforms a most windows notebooks running Vista. I compare with people at my college all the time lol. Sometimes I have a urge to play a game so I just dust off the old desktop, but other than that I'm exclusively Mac now :)

I have the early '08 MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz. It is so freaking amazing and I know that the newer ones are even more impressive. Go for it, you won't regret your decision. I think you should buy Apple Care too because the optical drive will eventually give you a hard time and you'll have to get it replaced because removing the dust every time is not going to help, it's like a temporary solution only. Good luck :).

I think I'm going to buy it on Amazon for $199 sometime this week since my year is on Oct. 30th.

You'll have a lot of people supporting you but at the same time a lot of people envying you and telling you that you wasted your money ;P.

I have owned nearly every Apple laptop since 2007. I've own a 15" MBP, white MB, black MB, MB Air, another MBP, and now I'm on a 13" MBP Unibody. So far the MBP unibody has been the most powerful, even though my black MB had better specs. I REALLY enjoy and utilize the mutlitouch trackpad. To me, that was the biggest thing as far as UI.
If you've switched and are happy, you'll really enjoy the MBP, even a "lower end" model. When I bought my first MBP, I told the guy, "I'll take the low end MBP". He laughed and said "That's like saying I'll take the low end Ferrari".

If there is any way without spending the rent money, DO IT. Like you, I was a windows user for too many years. What a waste of so much time. Shortly after getting the original iPhone I decided to make the switch. Don't even know where to start in telling you how much better Mac's are and are really easy to learn. One of the best parts? Don't need to "clean house" all the time like you do with windows. If you get one, you will be glad you did within about an hour.:ok:ok

dturner..I couldn't have said that better. I too just bought my first 15 inch unibody 320 GB MBP, about 2 and a half months after my iPhone 3GS. It is my first Apple computer ever so I could justify paying the $1750, after rebate. It is a real work of art. It makes my other Windows laptop look like junk. I agree, there isn't all that bloated garbage you get with Windows, not to mention constant updates, and anti-virus. I bought books to learn the details of Snow Leopard, and it has been a really valuable educational experience.

Mine a a bit older and came with Leopard, but I too bought one of the "Dummies" books and learned a ton about the system. I would highly recommend a book of some sort to any new Mac user. It will get you off on the right foot and you will find that they are really easy to use.

Honestly speaking, you don't even need a "for dummies" book, because both Leopard and Snow Leopard are brilliantly simple to use, and are just.. intuitive.
oh, and to the OP.
If you can't afford the new MBP, try craigslist, and try to find either a slightly older MBP or a newer WhiteBook.

In hindsight you are absolutely right. But being new the the Mac at that time, I guess I felt that I knew nothing about the OS and wanted some guidance. But really if you know windows, you can catch on pretty quick by just digging in and doing.

I agree it is very intuitive and the knowledge of Windows does carry over to the Mac OS. There are similarities. Still, there are a lot of details and hints that a good Mac OS book really reveals.

Like I said, in hindsight it probably isn't needed. But there were so many "little" things I learned that I may have never known or taken a lot longer to discover.
Having had the book on leopard, there was really no need to get one of snow leopard because they aren't THAT different. I can pick up info thru the various Mac sites.

Very true. If I had the Leopard OS I wouldn't need to buy a separate book for Snow Leopard. There are just some certain details added that I could pick up by researching the Internet. On Sept. 1st my MBP was delivered to me with Leopard installed. I then ordered Snow Leopard for $9.99.

I bought my first MBP, it was a 15" in 2007. Kept it for a year and had to sell it allong with a black MacBook just because I needed the money.
Last month I was finally able to get another MBP, this time went for the 13". I don't do much with it other than watch TV shows and movies and surf the net but I liked the MBP features better than the MB. I upgraded the HD to a 320GB and next I will expand it to 4GB ram. It came with Snow Leopard and it runs perfectly on it. It's a great machine.
I should point out that I bought the first MBP one week after the very first iPhone came out. I loved the way the iPhone worked that I just had to buy my first Mac back then.

I am sick and tired of my windows laptop and my girlfriend has a 15inch macbook pro and I am always using it because I just like how simple and user friendly they are to use. I hate with windows running ad ware everything time im done using the computer along with all of the anti virus BS that comes along with that. If I don't go to school I am still going to pick one up. Has anyone here financed one? I am def. not going to have the cash laying to just go to apple and buy one. I am pretty sure apple has interest free financing for 1 year.

The fact that you are not a professional user doesn't mean Windows is bad. As a matter of fact, Windows is a very good, reliable OS and it is dominant worldwide. Macintosh is awesome and a lot of people are starting to use it, but Microsoft Windows had always been dominant and still is. No wonder there are cracked and even user-modified versions all over the web? I use both Macintosh and Windows (Boot Camp). Windows 7 is just brilliant, and so was Windows XP. I didn't like Windows Vista because it was really heavy but it was still awesome for people with great Gaming-PC rigs; not that much for notebooks. I never had to use any antivirus or antimalware software on windows, maybe the SP1 days but that's it. If you are a careful user, you don't need any protection software. By careful user I mean some one who doesn't just log on anonymous sites searching for stuff or some one who downloads warez, you know what I mean right?
So your judgement is very prejudice and trust me, you'll love Macintosh but you'll still miss Windows and will most likely install it using Boot camp later on.

Even though I love the Mac OS I will still always have Windows on my other computers too. I see no reason why anyone can't have both. I do want to keep my MBP just for all things Mac OS though and not use Boot camp. I can use my other computers for Windows.

For sure! I will never not have a Windows computer no matter how many Macs I have here. I will always enjoy using Windows. There is nothing wrong with Windows and if you go to other Mac forums, you hear all kinds of bashing. The only time I ever had a problem with using Windows was when I was first learning how on my very first computer and deleted something I never should have and had to call Microsoft tech support. They had me going in 15 minutes and directed me step by step how to get the deleted file off of the Windows CD.
Long live my HP computer and my Macs. :ok:ok

I have one major credit card, American Express since 2006. I pay the entire bill the month it's due, no matter what the cost. I've never had to do "two payments" on a single bill. Ever. I think this helped a lot with my credit score. I'd recommend getting a major credit card and just keep good with them.
