Hey there,

I am trying to pick a new case for my iPhone 3G because I have two that are boring lolz.

Here are the 7 (the 7th is in the next post, 6 images are the limit in one post) I like but help me pick just one of them:

I think I owned number three back then when I had the iPhone 3g. I am not very sure but if it used to cost around $35 USD at AT&T then that's it.

I really like the white (2nd) one but I don't know if it's any good. I'll hate it if it starts absorbing dust!

This is the very first time I try creating a poll so I don't know if I did it right. All your votes and suggestions are appreciated, thank you.

Tarek

Here is number 7.

It looks pretty decent :).

My friend has an incase slider and I like it. It provides a little bit of grip, but not so much that it doesn't easily slide in and out of your pocket. Someone here recently said that they are known to scratch the phone, but my friend checked hers and it's still scratch free.

The problem is, I wear slim jeans most of the time and I guess it'll be hard for me to slide it in and out, as you said. But I still love how the case looks and I don't think that's what's going to affect my purchasing decision if I decide to buy it. Oh and I already had case number 3 as I said before, I just remembered. It's exactly that one and that was a pretty decent case actually. You can easily slide it in and out because it's leather. Rubber ones are kind of... hard.

I don't think the incase will be a problem. I wear slim jeans as well and have no problem getting mine in and out of my pocket. The incase isn't much bigger than the Moshi iGlaze I use and I think they are made out of the same material. The silicone/rubber cases would be a problem though, they are a little difficult to slide in and out even if your pants aren't very tight.

That is true. I actually thought the incase is rubber? Lol. That's good news :)! I love how the Sport Grip one looks also, what do you think? And is it made out of rubber?

Europa

I thought it was too, until my friend got one. I thought the material on the iGlaze was unique, but apparently it's used on many cases. You'll love how it feels.

I'm not sure about the sports grip.

The incase slider scratched my bezel up quite bad. Id go with the iSkin

I agree, it actually scratched my bezel and the back of my iPhone. Two different cases, two different iPhones. I'd never purchase that piece of sh!t again. Go with the Moshi iGlaze (I know it's not on your list) if you want something sleek and slim you can slide in and out of jeans easily, especially if you wear slimmer jeans.

You, also, forgot an often overlooked option: NAKED.

Cases scratch bezels eventually and there's no case that compares to the look and feel of a naked iPhone in your hand.

I previously owned case #3.
It's a tad on the bulky side but it offers a great deal of protection to the phone.

Ehhh, I wouldn't be too quick to say that. There are plenty of cases that won't scratch your bezel. Cases like this one that I won earlier this week from JustAnotheriPhoneBlog (thanks again guys!), has a soft cloth lining inside...http://www.carbonfibergear.com/direct/gorilla-tube-carbon-fiber-iphone-3g-case

I'm sure there are others out there, too. My friend has the Otterbox and took it out after a few months, wiped it down and it was literally flawless. :ok:ok

No progress...

These are the best cases IMO and none of them were mentioned.
Minimal protection: Moshi iGlaze
Good protection: iFrogz Luxe
Maximum protection: Defender Otterbox

I have 1, and like it. But, looking at the images, I like 2, too. If I was working outside, and in the elements, I'd get a Defender Otterbox ;)

You were right, guys, the first one and actually most of the ones that are here DO scratch the iPhone because they are not soft from inside. I called the guy who owns a store that sells accessories. There are many more than just those in his store, I just posted the ones I found looking decent but I never knew it would actually scratch the iPhone, I wouldn't really want that >_<. Numer 7 is pretty decent, he said it doesn't scratch the phone at all but it has very weak protection, it's just for the looks and to make it easy to slide the phone in and out of pockets.

He also linked me to two covers:

http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu66/wawzzy/getthumbphpggg.jpg

http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu66/wawzzy/Copyofgetthumbfgfphp.jpg

He said those are two of the top quality covers he has and best selling. They do look pretty awesome, especially the first one (black one). It costs around $50 but I guess it's worth it!

my favorite is the Seidio Innocase II Surface, however, of the ones you listed above I like the Incase Slider. I used it for a long time but like the Innocase better.

Tarek i have the Incase slider in Gloss White. Make sure you get the gloss versions instead of the matte versions. Something about the matte versions pick up sooo much dirt, and they discolour over time. Ill post a pic later of a friends phone to show what i mean.

I have the Gloss white incase slider. Slips in and out of pants (uhh... lol) with ease. Its not bulky, but it protects. Added bonus is the bottom section that slides off so you can charge the phone easily in a dock (like i do).

On another note i have owned both the Switch easy Rebel and the Capsule Neo.
Here's my take.
The Capsule Neo... can be summed up as: PITA!!!! PITA!!! The case has ALOT of parts. It comes with the Hard plastic spine, two gel "soft cases", headphone jack cover insert, USB port cover insert, two screen protectors, cardboard squeegee, microfibre cloth. I DO NOT recommend this case if you need to use a dock, or a music stereo system with this case. Also the Take off and put back on times are ridiculous because there are so many parts, and getting the case to fit the phone perfectly is a task in itself much less putting the case on.

The rebel IS the best case ive ever had... (if not using a dock to charge or play music sometimes). I had one in arctic. The best thing about it is that it comes with a soft "case" but the "rib like" plastic piece is very hard. The case also comes with a USB port insert that protects the port on the bottom of the phone. You get two screen protectors, a cardboard squeegee and a microfibre cloth.
The case has one major flaw that develops from basic wear and tear, and putting on, taking off after weeks to clean inside. The bottom of the case stretches and bows outward away from the phone leaving the chrome finish exposed. I contacted switch easy about this and they wouldnt replace my case so threw it away and said forget them and bought the incase slider in white.

No issue whatso ever with the incase slider.

Thanks for your input, London. I like the Neo one, though. I'll wait for you to post the picture because I still have time to think of what I am going to buy, around 5 or 6 days.

See you can see how much bottom chrome is exposed.

Here's a few of my friends 3g Matte pink incase slider case. Idk if you can see it but the pink has faded, and there is heavy discolouration with spottiness of like a dark underlying colour. The phone according to her sits in her purses phone pocket. She's only had it for about 2-3 months. I guess real leather and the matte incase slider cases dont get on much. First pic shows the inside slit for the case that isnt exposed to outer elements. You can see the original vivid pink colour clearly. The second and third pics are so you can see the discolouration/dark spots. Sorry for the crazy quality and fuzziness/noise. I took these just now with my iphone. I think ill retake them with a digital camera if you need clarity. Let me know.

Yeah, I can clearly see the dark spots, thanks. That's not good for an expensive case (it's expensive here). But I don't know if that'll be evident if it's black, I don't think so! Anyway, I want to see the one you prefer, the one you like so maybe I will get it. I actually love how the 3G looks but a good case will make it even look better.

But to be honest, the 2G actually looks better than the 3G :). I love the silver aluminum casing, like the late '08 MacBooks perhaps. Even though I used the 2G for just a couple of weeks, I really miss it! Its power button is also placed way better than the 3G's.

You're talking about this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHsLIA4GcPs) right? It looks pretty amazing but I don't know if the tiny stuff he realized in the cover itself are going to scratch my iPhone, but either way I will hopefully get it. Either it or the Neo one which costs a HELL lot more but it is much, much better as I've heard. The incase slider is really easy to slide in and out as you said, I didn't know it was made out of that material, I thought it was rubber lol.

The inside of the incase has these silicone rubber lines that keep the phone from moving or rattling inside the fit to form case. They dont scratch AT ALL. Besides, any case will scratch the phone if there is dirt and debris that hasnt been cleaned out.

An another note... im headed to the apple store AGAIN.... to replace this stupid phone. Was working fine all day today, when all off a sudden it told me no SIM detected. So i checked and looked, Sim is fine. I restart the phone, same thing. I get home, open the tray, close the tray, still same thing. I then restore, and still samething. I even swapped my sim card into my mothers iphone to make sure and it was working fine. UGH.... they better have an appointment early tomorrow.

The Capsule Rebel is the most expensive but of course.. quality over quantity, at least for me. And he said it's really easy to slide in and out when wearing tight pants, especially jeans. What do you think? Capsule or Neo? I am going to buy one tonight :D.

TarekElsakka
10-17-2009, 10:58 AM
I bought this

http://www.iphonefreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/iphone-3g-parts.jpg

today because it actually is really awesome. Light weight and it does protect. Its casing is just like the iPhone's but a bit softer and really easy to slide in and out :p. I bought it temporarily till I get the Rebel one. I was pulled over today for parking wrong and I paid a lot so now I am short in cash, got to wait a few days now >_<.

Im confused at to what that case is. IS it a complete back replacement? It looks that way with the screws etc. Ive never seen anything like that before.

Lesson one Tarek... a store will tell you ANYTHING in order to sell a product. I like the Rebel, but if i had to get it again, i would get it in the Storm Trooper Black and white, or just all white. If not, the incase is always a great buy.

It's not a complete back replacement. It is just a cover that looks exactly like the iPhone's back. I will take a picture soon but right now I am just too lazy, sorry. The one in the picture, I guess, is a total back replacement, but I am just showing you what the cover looks like! The guy doesn't have a store, he's just a regular 23 year-old dentistry student in a good university near me.

Actually, I like his reviews. His videos are in HQ, which is great, and he doesn't rush things out; he keeps explaining and showing us everything and that is good for a newbie like me.

You know, London, the only reason I'd buy the incase slider is because of you! lol. It's actually not expensive, very affordable, good looking, and you say it doesn't scratch and I believe you. You know what, I am going to try it very soon and let you know if I'll keep it. Thanks dude.
