It's quite simple, it is the nature of a zombie to attack and kill. It is an innate trait that is passed on as soon as they become undead.

Zombies are instinctive. Self preservation = feed. Feed the body and you will sustain yourself. When you strip away the multiple facets of human will and emotion only one thing remains. Self preservation.

Then the body has nothing to metabolize into energy. The body will cease to function, and eventually infection will be balanced out by survivors lasting longer. That is.... until or if another infection breaks out, and/or if the infection is only limited to humans. If its not then life on this planet would be quite difficult with natural food running the risk of being infected.

Its been stated in history for ages. EVERYTHING has a balance. If balance is broken it will eventually fix itself.

Anyway, in keeping with the topic of this thread, I have that Zombie book and it's great. I actually had to stop reading it before I went to bed because I kept having nightmares about zombies.

I keep warning my husband that a zombie apocalypse is due any day now. He does not believe me.

(BTW, I'm going to be a certain type of zombie for Halloween. If my costume works out the way I plan, I'll post some pics of me in it...)

I think he meant it will spread rapidly and become a pandemic because of airplanes. Before airplanes were so widely used, virus outbreaks tended to stay somewhat localized or at least not spread around the world as fast. The infected travel to a new area before they are showing symptoms.

Well this depends on 2 things. If its a virus spreading. Or if someone was bitten by an infected and then got on the airplane...to which we've all seen that infection from a bite wound happen quite quickly. The plane would have just taken off, and then all hell would break loose on the airplane.

If your city is on the water, or your residence is very very desolate and far away from the next person (like living in the middle of a country) you'll be ok. However being in a huge metropolitan area (such as Manhattan) even tho it is on the water will screw you over.
