Hi y'all,

I'm on a family plan with my dad - I have the 3g (ineligible for an upgrade). My dad decided to take to plunge to an iphone, but he doesn't want/need the power/extra features of the 3G[S]. I'd be happy to take it off of his hands :dft012:wink

He ordered it online, and he received it - but hasn't opened it from its box. He's coming up to visit me tomorrow, and I'd like to restore my 3G in iTunes and swap the sim cards, then restore my 3G backup within my computer.

Is it this simple? I've heard WILDLY conflicting stories about this, and I'd like a simple answer, once and for all.

Is there anything my dad should do before he comes up (i.e opening the box and activating the phone in his account, or should he just not bother yet)

My wife and I did the same thing and the only thing that we did was swap sim cards and then I took the 3Gs and connected it to iTunes, named it something and then used my last backup that I did and that was all. None of the apps were in their usual spots, but with the new version of iTunes, it's 10x easier to put apps where you want them. Good luck.

Yup, its an easy task. I had the same issue. Had a 3G that was not eligible and my friend had the first iPhone. Long story short, I took the sim out of my friends and put it in the 3G for him and got a new 3GS for me.

Okay,

So - here's what happened. The 3G[S] with my old 3G sim card works perfectly. My 3G with the new 3G[S] sim card connects to the network - but cannot access edge or 3G.

What can I do? I'm attempting to restore, but I'm at a loss as to what could have happened...

Why don't you call AT&T and avoid all the hassle? They can help you, I'm sure.

Besides the fact that it's 11:23 PM? No reason :P
