I am not sure if this has been asked before, but I saw the Sirius XM Skydock in Radio Shack today and the salesman had no clue about it.
My question is this, do you have to be an XM subscriber specifically or with the Sirius XM merger will it work if you are a Sirius subscriber? I am so confused, and I want to purchase it, unless I have to subscribe to XM

I too, am wondering about this. My guess is that you'll have to subscribe to XM and get the Best of Sirius package. This way they get the standard subscription fee, and since everyone griped about not having Howard Stern on the first iPhone SiriusXM app, they get to tack on the additional fee. Pretty smart business move by them, IMO, just sucks for us. I would imagine that making this a Sirius Sky Dock would cut into their anticipated profits with the current set-up.

I also would like to know if it will be able to stream any audio that is output from the iPhone (iPod, Pandora, PocketTunes, etc.).

As a sirius subscriber skip it, go with something like wunder radio. Its cheaper and you can get all the premium online content. As far as the sky dock goes...Straight from the horses mouth,

Can I activate XM SkyDock with a SIRIUS subscription?
The XM SkyDock operates on the XM network and requires an XM subscription. You can add "The Best of SIRIUS" to an "XM Everything" subscription to enjoy premium channels from the SIRIUS lineup.

by the way, i would say no you can't use it for other apps, such as pandora
and here is why,
How does the XM SkyDock receive SIRIUS|XM programming?
The XM SkyDock has a built-in XM Tuner. It is an XM Satellite Radio controlled by your iPod touch or iPhone using the Free XM SkyDock App available from the App store.

That's what I figured. Oh well. I'll stick with my current set up (even though its a bit bulky) I have a air vent mounted phone holder and an RCA to iPod with charging cable with the scosche charging adapter to work with iPhone. I did just order a video out with usb cheapy ($10) cable from china and I'm going to give that a whirl in the truck because I have a touchscreen LCD headunit, the video out would be cool. The main reason I'm curious about the skydock and using other apps is alternator noise. This cable creates the worst alternator while at high volumes. Hopefully this new A/V cable will accomplish that since its only 5v USB power traveling parallel to the audio conductors instead of 12v unregulated power.

The Skydock is without a doubt THE BEST satellite radio there is today! I bought it last week and I have no regrets. It has all the features of any other XM satellite radio. All I can say is buy one, you can always return it of you don't like it. Read all the reviews about it on digitalradiocentral.com. There is not one negative review.

Oh and it can be used with ANY app on the phone/touch.

I would purchase this just for the cigarette lighter charging capability but it's very expensive.

Does anyone know of a similiar product that you plug into the cigarette lighter and it'll charge at the same time? Looking for a cradle solution.

Thanks in advance.
