I have spent the better part of two hours trying to upload a photo from my computer to our site to use for my avatar.. I keep getting the message that the file failed to upload...HOW do I do this and what size does the photo have to be? I have no resizing ability...
Thanks, Karen:dft006:unhappy

The maximum size is 300 by 300 pixels or 148.8 KB (whichever is smaller).

Those are for the profile pictures. She said for her avatar which would be 148 by 148 pixels or 39.1 KB (whichever is smaller).

If you are using Windows, I believe you can resize a pic using MS Paint.
If you are using a Mac and have iPhoto, you can resize by selecting the pic, choose 'File>Export.' In the dialog box that pops up, choose 'JPEG' for the file type, Low or Medium for quality, and the 'Custom' for size. In the little Max drop-down menu, you can choose dimension, height, or width, (choose whichever is the longest) and enter a number (the one I uploaded for my avatar is 173 pixels tall on my Mac, for example) in the pixel box. Then click 'export' and save it somewhere easy to find, then try uploading again.
You can also get a free photobucket account and resize online.

If you are on a Mac and just want to resize, the easiest way to me would be to use Preview.

Doh! I haven't ever used that for pics, I open them straight from iPhoto or PSE. I've only been using a Mac since February, so I'm not as familiar with all of the basics as I was with Windows.

I was a windows user for far too many years. Switched to a Mac about 2 yrs. ago. Aren't you glad you switched? Wish I had done it years ago. The iPhone was a big part of me making the jump. Everything is so seamless.

It was the other way around for me, first came the iMac, then the iPhone. Eight days ago, I upgraded from a BB. I liked it, but it was a EDGE device, and I wanted 3G this time, so the iPhone made the most sense vs. the Bold, it just had more features that I liked. No regrets, so far. (Not to mention PocketMac wasn't really doing it for me. Although I see RIM finally released a Mac version of their interface.)
I'm definitely loving the Mac, I haven't had to learn nearly as much about the underlying workings as I did with Windows, from a maintenance standpoint. My wife is digging her iPhone, too, so it's just a matter of time before I can get her to dump her Windows laptop for an Apple. She does all of her iPhone stuff on the iMac, so it won't be long. She's a technophobe, though. I had to drag her kicking and screaming from the world of cell phones to smart phones, but I think she is growing weary of always having to watch out for viruses and malware. I'm not a hardcore 'fanboi,' but I don't see myself going back to Windows anytime soon.
I still get to use XP Pro and Win 2000 (and even 3.1 and 95 on some older support terminals, lol!) at work, though. I've not had any real problems with Windows in and of itself, it is just such a target for exploits that it became a hassle.

I kept getting that same message when uploading an image for my avatar even if the size was correct. It worked though even if the size wasn't scaled down exactly to that size. I just disregarded that message and looked on the forum where I posted and 'voila' my new avatar worked.

I just noticed the edit tag in the OP, looks like the same thing happened for them.
