A little help.

First off im sorry if this has been asked, ive been searching all morning and cant seem to find an answer. I have read that if you upgrade to OS 3.1 and it has not been unlocked before then you are basically screwed for unlocking the phone. However every site says this for the iphone 3g and 3gs not the 2g. I am a t-mobile user and want to buy an iphone 2g, will i be able to unlock it if it has been updated to 3.1 already, or is it the same as the others and everyone is just omitting it when they say it is impossible because it is old haha.

It's 'iffy but I think you might be out of luck. It's my understanding you still need to be on 3.0 or 3.0.1 to successfully build a custom ipsw with PwnageTool to preserve your baseband.

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.
