So what's the purpose of DVDDecrypter? I know what the title means but all I have is Handbrake and it rips all my DVDs which are purchased from Walmart or Blockbuster.

Hmmm. Never knew you could do the whole thing with Handbrake. I'm an idiot. Too much of a newb still.

Just an FYI... Using Handbrake alone more than doubled the typical file size on the phone. Over 1.5 gb for one movie.

DVD Decrypter does a better job in that regard.

Hey when I follow the advice to change the output from Apple TV to iPhone or itouch my movie sizes dropped from 1.5GB to 600MB. So I don't think it's due to decrypter.

No way it had anything to do with DVD Decrypter since that doesn't do any compression at all. It merely strips away the copy protection, UOPs, and allows you to selectively copy. But what is copied is exactly the same size it was on the DVD. That's why you need a separate app to compress if using DVD Decrypter.

I'm on the iPhone settings. All the rest of the movies I've downloaded are 500-700 mb. The first time I use Handbrake solo the movie is 1.5 gigs.

Guess it's just me.

I would guess that since a 90 minute movie is taking 500-600 MB that a 4 hour movie would take around 1.5 GB. I don't guess that would be the problem, would it?

FYI- Handbreak is a very good piece of software, it honestly is a very simple tool to use.

When you've ripped the film to your computer, open Handbreak up, drag the film into Handbreak.

Before you get excited and hit the convert button, look to the right hand side, there is a settings tab. There is also a default setting for the iPhone. Once you've selected it, you will see the application change it's settings to accommodate the iPhone. Then hit convert.

On my laptop it takes roughly 30 minutes to convert a 700-800mb .avi file into .mp4

HB is seriously easy to use. Have a go again and I'm sure you'll be fine. It automatically optimizes video for the iphone, therefore making the video size smaller to fit the screen.

I don't rip my DVDs to my PC or MAC. I just stick a DVD in my computer and open Handbrake. My conversions take right at an hour but it beats ripping it twice. Once to the computer format and then once to the iPhone format.

So in basic, your ripping it straight into .mp4 format?

This works just the same, it will still obviously save a copy of your film in iTunes so you can sync it with your phone.

I wish iTunes had a converter, where you could literally drag and drop and it converts then syncs. It would make life so much easier.

Since the movie in question is only 2 hours and 7 minutes I wouldn't think so. I have one that's 2 hours and 34 minutes and it's half the size.

Yes that would be sweet. Yeah I just rip the DVD to MP4 to my external hard drive and then add the file to my iTunes library. I have almost 450 movies in my iTunes library and all of them are stored on my external hard drive because I only have a 320 GB hard drive on my MAC and it would be full.

Dude I have no idea why yours is making your output file so big.
