It works. I have a 3GS on 3.0.1 and just got MMS working with these directions (they are the same as the ones in your link). Thanks RossMc.

Tried that update since im at 3.01 and Jailbroken but I get an error in itunes saying that my phones carrier file cant be upgraded. Is it because I have the tethering hack? If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

What itunes do you have installed? I'm using 9.0.1.

Like mc said - make sure you enter that string at the command prompt.
I did it and it works great!
Now the carrier file is 5.0 and not 5.5, but I don't know why I'd need 5.5 MMS and Tethering both work flawlessly!

I typed the command right, I'm sure of it. Also, I'm using iTunes 9.01.

Have you actually tried to tether though? My toggle disappeared as soon as I tried to turn it on. This is the same exact thing that happened to the people that had tethering and then updated to 3.1.

Ok, my problem was that I had the At&t carrier logo change through Cydia applied. Once I removed that carrier 5.5 was able to install. It works now! YAY!

Im using Vista 64 bit.
I'm getting the syntax error in command prompt screen.....
I suspect that Vista 64 has a different path requirement for this file.
Can anybody help?

Sorry, this MMS update will not work on the 2G/V1 iPhone, irregardless of what firmware you are on or if you are jailbroken or not.

I did the above steps and they worked but only for receiving them. When I try to send a picture it gets about 90% of the sending bar done then stops and sits. After a bit I get a red exclamation point. I called AT&T and they said my account is set up for it already.
I am on 3.0 jailbroken on a 3Gs.
Any suggestions on what to try? AT&T said to restore the phone and I don't want to do that because I need it jailbroken and don't want to go to 3.1 until it is officially jailbroken with Cydia working.

I finally got home and installed the carrier update. MMS is working in Oklahoma.
3GS with 3.0.1 with jailbreak.
I used the instructions supplied in this thread. I never received an email from AT&T.

Apparently, you don't even need iTunes 9 to get this working. I'm still on v. 8.2.1.6 and my jailbroken 3.0 iPhone can send and receive MMS. Sweeeet!

Irregardless?!?!
Would you be even more forgiving to learn Bill Gates (not that he's know for his eloquence, anyway) once used that word during an NPR interview about his imminent retirement? Of course, he was excoriated, unmercilessly...:dft011:wicked_smile
"Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so."

My phone has been acting wonky the last few hours. I took a pic to MMS to a friend and it caused a hard reboot. I had the Apple logo for a good 3-4 minutes before finally finishing booting.
Then my battery ran down, I plugged it in, and a few hours later it was just a white screen. Rebooting now to see if it's ok.
worked for me, EASY... after i read that you have to use the "" marks...!
NOTE: IE8 will try to save the file as a zip file, on bottom right after "right clicking to save", save it as "all files" and change it to .ipcc, then you'll be able to find it when you hold SHIFT to "update"... SUPER EASY!!!

Had to wait until I got home from work to follow this workaround....easy instructions and loaded ipcc with no problems...now all I need to do is test it with someone I know can send and receive.
Edit: just sent one to myself as suggested lol. I can send and receive....

Apparently the problem i had with sending was not at my end. I can send myself one fine. It was the Sprint crackberry I was sending to that didn't work. Phew.

What error are you getting, if any? Have you rebooted your phone? Do you have any carrier logo-altering theme (e.g. MakeItMine) installed? If you do, try uninstalling it/them first and try the patch again.

i'm not getting any error..that's what is strange..and no.no carrier logo altering installed..and yes i tried to reboot the phone..and i've tried to redo this process and i'm still not having any luck..like i said all was good until i got the text from AT&T telling me that it was available..i'm really stumped on this ...

I'll assume you are getting a red exclamation mark against each MMS you tried to send. See if this fix works for you: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-10362288-233.html
EDIT: Restoring your iPhone will remove your jailbreak. Use this fix with that caution in mind.

Type/copy+paste this into the command console that comes up: “C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

This is how I got my jailbroke/unlocked 3G w 3.0fw on mms... the bundle is the att stealth 6.0 I used this guide from modmyi.com by Stealthbravo but used iphonebrowser 1.9.3.0 instead of manual ssh. Unzip this bundle. It should read ATT_US.bundle when done. ATT_US.bundle SSH into your phone and navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles There you will see a bundle called ATT_US, delete it and replace with the one downloaded. now navigate to /System/Library/Carrier Bundles There you will see a bundle called ATT_US, delete it and replace with the one downloaded. Now restart your phone and you should have the camera icon in the messages app. I had to call att for them to re register my phone, after I did the above and rebooted my phone I got the red exclamation points when I tried to send a mms. Called att got re registered, mms works great !

I had same problem when I tried that. Try using iphonebrowser method as above..
I also use xp. I was very amazed on how easy the iphonebrowser deleted and re-installed
the carrier files... drag and drop !
I even tried to rename the ipcc file to ipss.... still did not work.
Try the above, that was the only way that worked for me.
Good luck
