Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2nd hand 3GS which was jailbroken. It had quite a few customisations on it from the previous user which i've managed to change. The last niggly one is the SMS messaging background, I cant seem to change it or revert to default (see image).
Any ideas on how this can be done?

Many thanks.

If you restore the phone thru iTunes and choose to set up as a new device that is supposed to reset everything to factory condition.

I wasn't aware you planned on JB for your phone. The Dev team is probably really close to releasing 3.1 JB. I'm waiting for that but if you want to unlock your phone then you still may not want 3.1. So keep your eyes open and hopefully in a week you'll know exactly where we all stand with 3.1.

Yea I think many people are waiting for the 3.1 jailbreak.
Nonetheless, im sure the issue I am having can be solved in another way (if there was a way to put that background on then there must be a way to take if off..)

Do you have Winterboard installed? Check to see if it's a SMS theme enabled in Winterboard.

Winterboard is installed but all of the items have been unchecked, meaning the whole interface is default apart from this messaging screen.

The seller should not have sold it to you that way, that's lame. They should restore to factory settings and then jailbreak, unlock and sell. Anyway, this is how it is, so you'll have to restore the phone or SSH into it to get rid of it them. Do you have OpenSSH installed?
It should be under library > themes > SMS

If you don't want to set up OpenSSH, you can use Diskaid for Mac or iPhoneBrowser for PC to gain root access to the phone. It's a lot easier than openssh, you just connect the phone to the computer and open the program. Diskaid used to be free, now it's $10.

There is a program in Cydia--I forget what it's called...but it allows you to go into the camera roll and choose a pic...from there you can either press the left side to make it the wallpaper or press the right to set it up as sms background. I'd tell ya the name, but my phone is at 3.1 so I dont have the jailbreak.

I have SSH'd into the phone but there is no 'SMS' folder in the themes section (just has a list of all the winterboard themes)

You might have to search for it, it's somewhere in file system. That's just the first place I would check. However, it is possible that he restored from a backup and that was one of those traces of the jailbreak that was left behind on the phone. In which case, the only way to get rid of it would be a restore to factory settings.

I have a 3G on 3.1 and I Jailbroke using the Dev-Teams newly released quickpawn....worked like a charm ... I am using boss paper to for wall paper behind the icons, by an SMS wall paper would be very cool.....

Anybody know what program itsnowornever is speaking of?

Thanks
Stephen

Ok, ive found the app that does the change...

Desktop/SMS Background on the iSpazio repository.
After its installed go to your wallpaper settings then select an image. Click on the "!" on the left to set it as SMS wallpaper.
The "!" on the right does the Springboard wallpaper. :ok:ok

I liked the sound of this, unfortunately installing this force me to have docked and undocked labels? It did not matter how my winterboard themes were arranged, I could not get rid of the labels. An uninstall fixed it.

Another idea (assuming you haven't already fixed the issue) is to JB, install an SMS theme that works, and SSH your own background into that theme. That way you could use whatever background you wanted, even a stock gray one if you like.

Decided to test the app out as well and it caused the same problem for me!

Strange...
