It's an educated guess. Most believe the Dev Team is waiting to see if Apple sneaks in a firmware update instead of a carrier file update, so they don't release a premature JB that isn't tested on a possible new firmware.

I don't see why anybody ever thought that there would be a firmware update for MMS in the US. It's obvious that the current firmware can handle MMS seen as though the rest of the world has it.

Also people can already get MMS in the US with the hacked carrier file so everything points to a carrier file update to add MMS for the US.

You are probably right that it will be carrier related however 3.1 has some major flaws that we (people who updated to 3.1) have been ironing out for them so 3.1.1 is probably very close. Wouldn't it suck to JB 3.1 tomorrow to the have Apple send out 3.1.1 with just enough stuff in it to kill the new JB. Just a thought.

But just because 3.1 is capable of MMS, that doesn't mean that Apple won't go ahead and release 3.1.1 just for the hell of it, to update some random stuff that deserves a second decimal point. And...

apple also were spouse to fix some batery issues with the 3.1 so i wouldnt be suprised if entire new update is issued...
i am sure surik has a method ready now but going to save his time by waiting for all updates to be rolled out. and than we gonna see him keep repeating do not the **** upate to anything else before jailbreak ( as ussual )

yes i did but i didnt bother with the update its not big deal i want my jailbreak more than anything. :)

if you like ur jb dont do it until dev team gives new one, its been a long 2weeks.

I live in Canada have a 3GS and i am on 3.0 fm, and can use MMS with the service provider here, so it's kind of baffling why ATt doesn't have that set up yet for the people in the US. And Really MMS isn't that big of a new thing on phones.
