I am attempting making a few apps. I never owned a mac before. I recently bought a G5 used. its a DP 2.0ghz. I downloaded and installed the SDK. I am trying to learn everything from scratch and want the challenge. I am trying to get familiar with the SDK by using it and watching the tutorials in the dev center.

My question is, im seeing that I missed a bit of information in regards to the requirements and bought a NON intel powermac G5.

Does that mean I cannot fully make the iphone app? How far can I go with the G5? do I really need an intel powered mac? So far everything works ok but im not really that far into anything. As petty as it may sound, I like the towers but do not feel like shelling out 3 plus grand on a macpro. All I want to use the computer for are these apps and for making some videos about 20 mins long. Plus daily chores like web surfing an email from time to time.

I know I could buy a macmini but will that really be up to the task?

I appreciate your help, I am for some reason locked out of the dev forum which is why im asking here until tech support gets me into the forums.

Thanks

According to apple:
System Requirements

Mac OS X 10.5.7 or later

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/development_tools/iphonesdk.html

Although I'm not sure that is 100% of the requirements.

Thanks. I followed the second link and did what it said but whenever I try to open the iphone specific programs once installed, a window pops up saying that my machine is not compatible. Lame

It looks like that article is a little outdated.

Thanks for the quick reply

Any other help?

Your answer is right here (http://developer.apple.com/support/iphone/devcenter/index.html#sysreq) on Apple's site - no need to get into the developer forums to find out.

What are the system requirements for the iPhone SDK?
To develop with iPhone SDK and participate in the iPhone Developer Program you must have an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X Leopard. Refer to the iPhone SDK Read Me document for full details on system requirements. Please note that you must become a Registered iPhone Developer prior to accessing the iPhone SDK and iPhone SDK Read Me document.

My response clearly showed that you can NOT use your non-Intel G5 to do what you want. You should re-word your questions if that's not what you were asking.

Start over. I said in my original post that I missed the intel part of the requirements. I dont need the requirements posted over again. Obviously I know the requirements now.

I was more looking to see if anyone had and luck or experiance developing on a non intel machine. And I also had a question about the mac mini.

So yes, you stated what I already know and answered one question. I appreciate it!
