Uninstalling iTunes & Quicktime before updating

I have iTunes ver 8.2.1.6 and Quicktime 7.6.2. For best results, is uninstalling current older versions before installing updated versions iTunes 9 and Quicktime recommended?

It isn't necessary. I always just update without issue.
