I'll try to keep this short and simple :)

This is where my problem is "normal":
-My 2G iphone's home button does NOT work.

-I have not dropped it or anything, I can hear it click when it's pressed and there isn't anything rattling inside the phone.

-I have to turn off/turn on the iPhone if I want to go back to the home menu

-I have restored and done a full factory reset on my iPhone 10+ times, NO RESULT

I've pretty much tried everything. Even with a clean factory settings phone, useless.

THIS IS WHERE I'M CONFUSED!!!

The home button does NOT respond, but I CAN RESET the phone! Just like a normal phone, sleep button + home button, presto!

So what's going on? I'll try to upload some video, the home button tends to only work during a 30 min a day time slot. When it does respond, the menus go crazy and start flipping back and forth.

With an empty phone, I'll try anything.

Please help!

If you're jailbroken, you can get mQuickDo from Cydia (it costs a couple of bucks) as a temporary workaround for a bad home button. mQuickDo allows you you use gestures on your iPhone's screen to accomplish many tasks that would normally involve the home button. I use it and rarely use my home button anymore.

Oh forgot to add that:
iPhone has never been JB or altered, currently on 3.1

I did see related posts regarding mquickdo.
What's stopping me from doing that is that the button does work for reseting so Im hoping it can be fixed since it is not 100% disfunctional.

In all these "months of research" have you ever taken it to an Apple Store or AT&T corporate store? It sounds like a simple hardware issue--the button just doesn't work. Take it to a Store or call Apple to mail it off if there's no store near you.

YES, that was what started all this. My phone magically worked on the spot. The "genius", plugged it to the Behavior Scan, told me the phone was in perfect shape, and gave me some BS like if I were trying to scam them for a new phone. "Well, if we can't reproduce the problem, I can't verify..." blah blah

Have you tried with the screen protector removed?

Yeap, I have. Actually, that blemish next to the button happened last time I removed it to see if there was a "difference". No luck, and damaged the anti-glare :dft002:amazed

Mine does something semi similar to what yours did in the video, but I believe mine does it because it was dropped in water. Thats the only issue I have had since Roxy (thephone) decided to go swimming (in the toilet).

Im sure the phone is out of warrenty, but maybe you should take it back to the apple store. I believe if you produce proof that you already tried to get it looked at because of this issue when it was under warrenty maybe they would consider replacing even after the warrenty expired.

Im not an apple "genius" or anything but hey its worth a try?

The reason your bookmarks are showing when you open safari is because after a restore safari ALWAYS shows your bookmarks before opening any page. Your fault doesnt appear to be the home button though
