I've been noticing this week especially that MMS picture sending has gotten slower and slower. Those of you who are regulars on this forum know I've had MMS for several months now. Today I was sending pictures and it takes up to 2 minutes for the status bar to complete! That's never happened before. Maybe AT&T did need to beef up their network. I used to send those suckers within seconds before. :dft008:suprised

I've found that MMS works much quicker on 3G. Edge is snail-paced at best. I never use 3G at home because of wi-fi, but I switch to 3G if I want to send an MMS from home, or abroad.

and so it begins... LOL

THIS will be the MAJOR complaint come the 25th...

once everyone has it, then will begin the complaints about how slow it is, how the pics aren't big enough, etc...

and so starts the trend of happy, but not really happy customers..

No he's right people. It used to be like 20-30 seconds max, now its like seriously a minute and a half to two minutes. =( thats really ridiculous and i think its a pretty valid argument.

Wait til Friday when MMS crashes their network ;)

Tried sending an MMS, took 100 seconds before it timed out and gave me the dreaded red exclamation point. Tried again and it took 78 seconds and finally sent it.:dft007:angry

It sounds like things are getting pretty bad out there...

Then we'll have to resort to sending our picture messages by printing them out and throwing them as paper airplanes to our recipients! :dft010:smiling

I'm going to enjoy watching everyone complain come the 25th. This will surely be the cherry on top of a "fantastic" month.

Mine doesn't take that long to send, but it takes forever to receive! My friend sent one last night at about 7 and I got it at about 9 this morning.

Quick sidenote, can the 3G receive videos? My friends have tried sending 2 but I haven't received either.

Talk to me... Anyone experiencing intermittent exclamations indicating messages that failed to send?

I tested this on myself by sending through e-mail to my phone #, and yes, you can receive videos on 3G

I sent myself a 30 second video about half an hour ago and it came through fine.

The audio on the 3GS videos isn't the loudest.

I'm still having that problem. I haven't successfully sent a picture yet. It's pretty frustrating.

A few questions.... What iPhone OS are you running? What iTunes version do you have? What AT&T carrier file version do you currently have on your iPhone 3G or 3GS?

I have a jailbroken 3G with OS 3.1, AT&T 5.5 carrier settings, iTunes 9.[whatever the update from a few days ago was]. And Snow Leopard on a MacBook, but I don't think that's really relevant.

My non-jailbroken friends aren't having problems with MMS, so I'm wondering if that's somehow related. I haven't heard of anyone else having a problem because of that yet, though.

a friend of mine is having problems sending MMS, as he gets the red exclamation point. If he gets an MMS he still gets the 'viewmymessage" link. He's on 3.1 and has 5.5 carrier file, non JB.

wonder what the issue is.

evo, have him check his settings and see if they are the same as the ones in the images here,
http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/2009/09/12/how-to-enable-mms-picture-messaging-on-your-iphone/
If they are ok, he should probably just upgrade to 6.0.

I'll have him check. Do you think he may not be able to get his MMS working because of the opt-out code possibly not being removed yet?

Well, I do know that people with older OS's who update to the new carrier file on iTunes 9 can't send MMS either. But in your case, I don't know why it's not working for you. Is there anyone else here that's 3.1 jailbroken on iTunes 9 with AT&T carrier file 5.5 that can't send MMS either?

Benso, have you tried the link that Europa provided above? AND... did you reboot your phone after you applied the carrier update?

No, I think everyone's has been removed and that was just an issue prior to the official release.

I've rebooted my phone a few times since then. I'll just go through everything that I've done so far.

I updated the carrier file like 2 weeks ago, whenever someone posted a tutorial here. I had the camera button and everything, but it wouldn't send. I also updated from 3.0.1 to 3.1 around that same time, whenever the jailbreak for 3.1 was released. After updating, I was missing my carrier logo for some reason, and on the about page it said "Not Available" for the network. I figured I'd just wait until the 25th and see if things got fixed.

They didn't, so I restored my phone yesterday, got the carrier logo and stuff back, jailbroke again, then updated the carrier settings to 5.5. Everything is good now, except I can't send or receive MMS.

To top it off, AT&T sent me the text this morning telling me I can send MMS now. It was like they were taunting me or something. Haha.

It sounds like you need to update to 6.0 benso.

benso87
09-26-2009, 04:55 PM
Wait, 5.5 isn't the newest?

Europa
09-26-2009, 04:57 PM
No. Some people running 3.1 need 6.0 for it to work.

Dumb question. Haha. I'm updating to the file provided in that link now. We'll see what happens.

I updated to the 6.0 carrier file from here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=793195

Still no luck. I'm thinking about just restoring and seeing if it'll work without the jailbreak or something.

Did you try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?

I did, but the settings were the same before as they were after resetting. They're the same as the ones in the pictures on post #5 on the thread from that link.

The CSR canceled my data and messaging plans, then added them again. Easy enough, I guess.
