I'm pretty sure Apple will release a new iPhone. Most likely many new iPhones.

They will probably release a new iPhone every summer until there is some kind of iPocketPlasmaTV. Basically it will keep coming out until it can be replaced by something similar and right now, there doesn't seem to be anything to take its place.
I think the iPods will eventually be replaced by the iPhone though.

I heard that there bringing out a 173Gb iPhone 6G. It will be released in 36days. You don't have to worry about signal as it uses satellite's as well. It comes in a variety of different colours. The camera is 12.3MP with a OLED screen pumping out 1080p with Dolby 9.2 surround sound. It is linked to the owner via there DNA fingerprint, added to stop petty criminals stealing your phones. You can theme as standard and there's no need for MMS anymore as it has holographic video calls, so you feel as if your actually there...

as long as apple keeps getting suckers to spend 700 dollars on a new iphone just because they cant wait for the upgrade when there contract expire, apple will be launching phones until the end of days,
and NO, the 3GS is not worth upgrading, i dont think 700 dollars for a faster processor and a video camera is DEFENETLY NOT WORTH IT,
just wait for the next gen iphone, and of course, if its worth upgrading

I am waiting for summer 2010. We already know there's a prototype iphone out from the Chinese suicide story. I expect more changes than just Ram upgrades and a fancy video camera (one of two features of which have been available on the iphone for a long time to the jailbroken community.) Give me video conferening, extended battery life, a revamped look, an oled screen and a 4 inch display (yes, it can be done) and it will become the hottest selling phone ever.

wow i agree completly with you, ram upgrade its nothing to me, the video camera has been in Cydia FOREVER, i dont see the point and interest that people see in the 3GS, it looks like they dont know what to do with there money or they dont have a life to spend that much on a cellphone, for me, the S stands for SUCKS

To be fair, the video recording apps for the non-3GS models don't come close to the native app on the 3GS.
And, the 3GS is much faster than the 3G. It's obvious that you haven't spent much time with the 3GS. I could never go back to my old dog of a 3G now.

What a foolish statement. It is well worth it. You didn't include all the upgrades and it's 4x faster. It does not cost $700 to upgrade every year. It costs $400/$500. I know because I bought a 3G in July 08 and then I upgraded to a 32 GB 3GS in June 09 and it cost me $500. You get a partial subsidization. I'm not paying over $100 a month either, my bill is $70 a month. Anyway, the reality is that you can upgrade for free, or really close to it, every year by selling your old one for around $400. IMO, you're the sucker for not upgrading for free.

I'm not trying to start another argument, but, the 3GS is an absolutely fantastic update. I fully understand that there isn't a major change in the way of functions, but the hardware change is one of the main reason why peole got the 3GS.
I've just got mine and I will never go back to the 3G.

no my good friend, i want more stuff, i know that apple could have implimented more stuff into the 3GS, like be able to transfer files over bluetooth, a camera flash, a video conferencing camera, i would like more features like that, i really dont care about it been more faster, i know YOU DO, and dont worry i totally respect that, but i want more features like this, and i really dont mind about the iphone been ugly, which its not, but looks on a phone its not a big deal to me, the nokia N95 its a beast, it has everything, but its horrible and i was going to buy it,(if it wasnt for been so expensive), if the iphone 4th gen has more features like this, IM BUYING IT DEFENETLY, and of course if its not to expensive, because i dont think that ANY iphone is worth more then 500 dollars, no matter what it has, if im available for upgrade when the 4th gen comes out, then i dont mind paying 200 dollars for it, 200 bucks for a phone is a very reasonable price...

Selling your old one would pay for a new one, which is what most smart people do. You can't do a simple math equation that equals a free phone (or no more than $100) and you're calling me a sucker? If you can't afford to spend $100, then just admit that, rather than bashing the new model, which is highly rated by owners.

The design is pratical, it's easy on the eyes and comfy in the hand.
Regardless whether you think it's worth it or not, it's down to personal preference. Your pushing the boat out with this. You need to think about what the 3GS stands for.....
and seriously, if you think Apple's going to release another phone with a cheap pricetag, then your absolutely crazy.
Looking at todays Market, with all the new phone/mobile media devices, there's too much competition. Apple will be building something right now. Look at the new Vuze HD, do you think Apple will add this technology to the iPhone- most certainly.
If the 3GS makes you this angry then why don't you look at or buy something different.

mr. reggaeton72, don't forget that the 3GS also has double the RAM. You say you don't care about a faster processor but you want video conferencing. It would not work well with the 3G processor and RAM. I think the 3GS could handle it alright, but running on the 3G, I think it would crash often and be choppy. Hopefully next years model will have it because that is a feature I would like to have as well. You can't have everything at once and expect to pay $200.

is true, but why does it have the faster processing without the video conference, or any other cool feature like a camera flash, you see, i know for sure apple could have added more stuff to the 3GS, but they didnt, thats why i didnt buy it, and i hope to that next years model could have more features, now if im eligable for upgrade and it would be 200$ then its ok for me, the thing is that im trying to say, its dat im not hating on the iphone 3GS, but is that how can people pay 700 bucks for a phone, its insane, i know its there money, but there paying the money like its a tremendous upgrade, when for me, its not...i know you like your faster processor, but for me, a faster processor its not something to go crazy over, but then again its my opinion, i think ima hold off until nexts years model, of course if it has some big upgrades and if im eligable for upgrade..

Yeah, I know, you want video conferencing without the other upgrades, BUT IT WILL RUN LIKE CRAP AND CRASH without them. You want a camera flash BUT YOU DON'T WANT A CAMERA WITH BETTER OPTICS & HIGHER MEGAPIXELS. That's brilliant.

Because they can't add everything at once and keep the $200/$300 pricing and also because they would have nothing to add the following year. You want things for free, life doesn't work that way.
Are you not listening to me? If you play your cards right and get a new one each year on release day, you will never have to pay $700. You will have to pay $400/$500, but you could have sold your iPhone 3G for as much as $420 last June. They only cost $600/$700 if you try to get a new one a month or two after buying the old one or get one that is contract free.

As for the upgrades, Apple have upgraded almost every aspect of the phone. OK, it doesnt have any cosmetic upgrades, but I care much more about whats under the hood ;) . Personally I chose to upgrade, if I didn't I wouldn't spend al my time *****ing about how not worth it it is. Lets just get on with things...

As I said, carry on. I think you come across a bit as fanboys, though, when you push so hard. Mr. Reggaeton is not new here and neither is this debate.
Fanboy? Moi?? I take offence! Lol :dft012:wink

Is it really worth shelling out that much cash for upgraded RAM and video software? I can buy a 17 inch laptop with the works for 700 bucks (of course, not an Apple laptop; we all know the plastic casing they use automatically adds a 200% markup to the price :dft003:coolkid.) Thanks, but no thanks.

Honestly, if I had to pay several hundred dollars to upgrade to the 3GS, I would have passed. But the fact is, I broke even when upgrade. No, actually made money upgrading by selling my 3G. So it was a no-brainer.

I am curious, how did you wind up with a profit? I have the 3G, and thought about selling it. But I can't realistically get more than 300 for it (alright, maaaaaybe 400 tops, but I can't rely on that.) So I would have to cover the other 300 or 400 to get the 3GS since I am still under contract.

Timing it right really helps. You'll maximize your profit, or at least break even, if you get a new one on release day every year. The people that sold their 3G iPhones in June got as much as $420. It's several months later now, and you might not get quite as much. Anyway, if you can sell your old one for $400, you can use that to pay for a new one, even if you aren't eligible for full subsidization pricing. The full discount pricing is $200/$300, but if you buy one every year, you'll only get that full discount on the first one. The subsequent ones that you buy every release day will be partially subsidized at $400/$500.
So see, if you play your cards right and keep your phone in good condition, you can upgrade to a new iPhone every year for free. You do have to pay and $18 upgrade fee every time, but it is very, very easy to get that waived. Just say your account is in good standing and you're wondering if they will waive that fee.
So, even if you don't think the upgrades are worth upgrading to (and trust me they are), you must admit they are worth upgrading when you can basically trade in your old one to get a new one (and possibly make money on the deal), right?
You just put the old one up for sale on eBay or Craigslist. People are willing to pay a lot for them because that's the actual value for a contract free phone. We are getting low prices because we are willing to lock ourselves into contracts (even if we only get partial subsidation, it's still a discount. Full price contract free iPhones cost $600/$700.

i migth be getting a 3GS, but later, because rigth now the 32GB is for 500 dollars for the early upgrade and thats too much for any phone, but i think i migth only get the 3GS, is because my 3G cant take any more, and a phone thats not working for me, its not a phone at all, its scrathed up, its slowing down , it shuts down randomly, apps are erased and i dont even know,(my asphalt 4 got erased and i didnt even notice)..MY 3G HAS THE WORST BUGS EVER, THE MUSIC PLAYS BY ITSELF like at 3am in the morning, and dats kinda annoying, The camera app crashed, the app stores always says UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD, PLEASE TRY AGAIN, but most importantly, ITS CRACKED IN THE BACK, IM TALKING ABOUT A HUGE CRACK..the sleep/wake button is loose(lol)..the sim card slot is damaged, and a whole lot of stuff,
i need a phone, now, but a cheap one cause im still not eligable for upgrade, any ideas ?
i dont think ima get a lot of money for it, probably 100 bucks, maybe less..

That's another thing. The less time you have them, the less time they have to get beat up. For this to work (a new one for free each year) you need to keep it in good shape and sell it as close to release day as possible (so it's only 1 year old). Maybe you can get the new one this coming summer and get on track with that plan? A screen protector and case help, but some people just get their phones replaced (for some random problem like you described) right before selling it, so they can sell it as a brand new mint condition phone. Stick around here long enough and you'll learn all the loop holes so you can always have the latest and greatest and never pay a dime for an iPhone again.

lol yea, i bougth a cover for it, but after all the damages, and now, it has a horrible damage, i was at my house at my farm, and i dropped it from the balcony which is 3 stories high, but i had the cover, but when it dropped, the home screen button, got kinda loose, and like, really loose, i dont think ima get any buyers, cause if i sell it, im not going to lie, i have to say what the phone has, but i think ima get, not more then 100 bucks, and if im lucky, maybe 150..but hey, who knows
another bad damage is, the headset jack, its really damaged, and like really damaged, sometimes you stick in the headphones and the phone wont recognize it, i have to pull it out and in again, for it to work, but then again, i dont think ima get a lot of buyers..i hope a do,

Is it still under warranty? If so, Apple might replace it for the all the software/firmware problems. If you have an Apple Store close to you, it can't hurt to give it a shot.

If it isn't under warranty, check this, I just got a quote for $230 for your phone. Your screen isn't cracked or defective is it? If so, it drops to $110 :(

You can put the serial number in somewhere on Apple's site and it will tell you. I'd have to look that up.
When did you buy it? If you bought it used, when did the original purchaser buy it?

i bougth it completly new, but i cant remember when, but on the apple website it said, IM ELIGABLE for an early upgrade, meaning that it has been around 6 month, so that means im still under warranty, but ill have to double check

Try to find out when you bought it. The easiest way might be to call AT&T or Apple, but you could also look through credit card statements. The warranty is good for one year from the date of purchase.

Ok hold on, let me see if I understood you correctly. I can walk into an AT&T store whenever I feel like and extend my contract and receive a partial subsidy on the iphone (400/500 as opposed to 600/700 contract free) ?

No. It depends on how long you've had your current iPhone. They aren't going to sell you a subsidized phone and then sell you another one the following month. I got one in July 08 with full subsidization and then the new one 11 months later with partial subsidization. They only release iPhones once a year, I got both mine on release day. Each time you get a new one, it extends your contract to two years from the purchase date.

I kind of like the fact that a new iPhone comes out every summer. Makes it easier for people to get used to a upgrade path. Nothing is worse than buying new gear only to see the next best thing released 31 days later.

I only hope that now Telus and Bell are carrying the iPhone here in Canada, Rogers/Fido will be more competitive about it and offer sweeter deals. We get screwed on the upgrade path at the best of times. I'm amazed you can start buying phones off contract now...they never did that for the longest time.
I would have bought a 3GS, but I'd rather wait and see what the next upgrade will be...Plus I'll be giving my old 3G to either my fiancee or brother...one of them will get to enjoy it and I can't really charge them. :dft006:unhappy
