upgrade? or not to upgrade?

HI all, i'm new to the forum, I bought an iphone a couple days ago from the U.S. ( I live abroad) and jailbroke it using pwnage running 3.0. Everything seems to be working fine, phone works and makes calls on my local network just fine, all apps are working great etc......... my question is, when I sync the phone with itunes I get the message that an upgrade 3.1 is available for my phone, if i do the upgrade would the phone revert back to locked mode with at&t or would it stay with my local carrier, when I got the phone it was locked with an at&t simcard in it, brand new never used, thanks for any answers, oh forgot to mention its a 2g 8gb iphone.

As far as I understand it, yes, it will revert to locked mode with AT&T. You should wait for now until they successfully jailbreak and unlock OS 3.1. It shouldn't be too long of a wait. As a matter of fact, it may already be done.

I bet Europa or another genius could provide more info on this.

Another question..... if I do the upgrade to 3.1 and it does revert the lock back to at&t, could I just unlock the phone after back to my carrier as before, I see there is another program that seems to just unlock if you wish (ziphone) I see it gives 3 choices :

1: unlock, jailbreak and activate
2: jailbreak and activate
3: jailbreak

I would NOT recommend using ZiPhone at all. Do you have a Mac? If so, the Dev Team just posted this: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Stay away from ZiPhone. It's (in the most pleasant terms possible) crap.


You can however upgrade to 3.0.1 but there's no point unless your paranoid about the SMS hack...

Stick with 3.0 for now, just keep a good watch on here or on the dev-team blog posted above about updates regarding the 3.1 jailbreak.

I'm sure they will do it soon. I have faith. (and 'paypal')
