Text Plan with AT&T

I am sure if I called AT&T I'd get an answer to my question, but experience tells me that you folks have more knowledge than some CSRs, so here's my question.

I have the 1500 message plan with ATT and it is $15.00 per month. Merely out of principal I find this charge outrageous as it should be inclusive in the data plan. Is there a way I can request that I want NO TEXT MESSAGING plan. Essentially, I want the feature turned off. I don't want to pay them one red cent for texts. The reason I want it turned off is in the event I receive a text, I don't want to pay for it. Thanks guys!

Now you may be wondering how I can live without texting. Who can? Well I have a Boost Mobile phone for work and it includes unlimited texting. I use that phone if I need to send/receive texts. Having two phones that both have texting is silly especially if I have to pay extra on ATT.

Yes, you need to call an AT&T CSR, have them remove your texting plan and put a block on text messages to your account.

I would just switch to a no text plan, which charges individually for each text, and then tell all your friends to only text you on the other phone. This way you won't miss the occasional, and possibly important, text that comes through. When you disable texting, people have no way of knowing you aren't receiving the texts they are sending you (unless you tell them texting is disabled).

Yes, this is true for all carriers if I'm not mistaken. I've always thought there should be an SMS Daemon to return a copy of the text from their SMS Daemon alerting you with the infamous undeliverable error message.

I'm thinking about doing that too. I downloaded a program called TEXT PLUS and I'll be trying it out next week when I have more time to see if it works. Anybody have any experience with this program? It sounds like a win-win based on what they advertise.

Good point - just letting him know a block is definitely possible, especially if you don't want to get billed a penny more than you need to.
