Is it possible to update a 2g iphone with a 3.0 or 3.1 ipsw? If so any tricks?

You can upgrade the firmware IN iTunes for free on any iPhone.

According to Apple and AT&T the v1 iPhone will never officially be able to MMS.

Yes, you can get MMS on Jailbroken 2G iPhone with 3.0. You can D/L ActivateMMS2G from Cydia and you'll have to set up your APN settings.

As of now, updating to 3.1 breaks the MMS on 2G iPhone. You can always use Swirly..

is there a way to upgrade to 3.1 without going thru iTunes because then I'' have to go thru the j/b process all over again.
