How Far Back?

How far back in the iTunes releases do I have to go to get a version where you can edit the carrier file? 8.1?

You can do it with 9.0 if you patch it. It's easy:

Mac OS X:


Close iTunes if it is open

Run the following command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Windows 2000/XP/Vista (32-bit):


Go to Start -> Run (
type in "command" and hit enter
Type/copy+paste this into the command console that comes up: "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Hit enter

Windows XP/Vista (64-bit):


Go to Start -> Run (
type in "command" and hit enter
Type/copy+paste this into the command console that comes up: "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Hit enter

I live in Michigan. Mine works already, I've had the 5.0 carrier installed since beta, I'm working on getting my girlfriends phone running now
