I updated to 3.1 via iTunes. What MMS icon? I just go to Messaging and don't see an MMS option; or if I go to Photos I don't see an option to send it via MMS.

It depends on the location. Apparently AT&T is rolling it out gradually. In Florida people have been getting it this whole week. Last night I upgraded my carrier file to 5.0 and am still on a jailbroken 3.0.1 and I have MMS working perfectly.

I forgot that i updated the ipcc file a long time a go. So the answer is you have to manually update the ipcc file to make it work.

You did the SIM swap and made sure you're on a texting plan other than iPhone Texting? If so, you're probably correct.

A little off topic but how did the text preview box show up while you were in the messages app? They usually just show up as a (#) right next to messages or just update the chat you are already in.

Started working for me beginning this week on 3.1 beta 3. When you update to 3.1 mms camera icon dissapears. When you install the att_us.ipcc file it comes back. My settings say att5.1. Just checked and still working. A couple co-workers are working also after I helped them install .ipcc :dft009:happy

3.0 still jailbroken. just went into MMS settings and turned it on then entered the settinsg in teh first post. i dindt even update the carrier file. MMS has NEVER worked for me. ever since the first iphone ive tried everything lol

I'm not sure what my problem is, but iTunes refuses to play along.

After following the instructions on the website down to a T, this appears once I Shift+Click and browse to the ipcc file:

I noticed that when browsing to the ipcc file, the "Open" window only showed ".ipsw" files, so I changed the extention on the ipcc. It showed up, but when I tried to use it, I got this message:

Seems like the command line thing to patch iTunes to accept IPCC files didn't take. What happened when you typed that command? Should do nothing for a few seconds, then return to to the C:/ prompt

It sits there and thinks real hard for a moment, opens iTunes, and then returns to the prompt.

EDIT: Just went back to retry the command prompt since you thought it might be the problem, and noticed that it was "PreInt" with an *I*, and not a lower-case "l". Gonna try that and see if it fixes the problem.

EDIT: I don't know if this is still the case but in the past having the iPhone texting plan wont allow MMS. You needed to have the Family Text or any non-iPhone text plan. If you have the proper texting plan for MMS, you shouldn't receive the "viewmymessage" message. Try inputting these settings and change you text plan to a non-iPhone text plan.

Can't help you there. I've never entered anything in that field so it has always been blank. try just leaving the numbers there and resetting your phone and see if it works but make sure all the other settings are EXACTLY as shown.

EDIT: If it doesn't work, try resetting your network settings and then re-enter the proper settings and reboot.

Sorry for the typo. The odd thing is that even though mine said "Gingular" where it should be Cingular, my data still worked. So apparently in the data section, this didn't matter.

Ever since I changed my MMS Proxy setting to 66.209.11.32 instead of what was in the OPs post, my MMS is working flawlessly. I can now receive MMS as well. :dft010:smiling

Need help. I'm runnin 3.1 & 9.0 iTunes. The how to is giving me issues. By the way I'm running Windows 7 and got to the "Command Prompt" and copied and pasted the path for 64bit. At first it kept giving me errors saying it was an invalid command then I finally got it to go. I followed the rest and when doing the "Shift Click on what I assume the Check for Update button it just tells me the software has been updated. Can someone give me a better how to... Sorry

I tried the whole setup just like it said on my Vista 64bit and it did not work i kept getting a error just like some people. So i tried it on my Mac Book Pro and it work like a charm and those are my settings they were setup automatically i did not input anything and it works perfectly. Well, I tried on one of my older operating systems and it seemed to work fine. When I clicked on Update it opened the window to choose from but the system is calling for IPSW files, not the IPCC and there is no drop down for all. I tried changing the file extension but it just says file not recognized... Any ideas... This sucks butt! The 25th can't get her soon enough!

Last night i took my SIM out from my other line that's on a family plan. Rebooted the phone. Made a few calls, sent some text messages out. Then tried MMS. Still nothing. I'll keep trying though. It'll eventually go.

I don't believe it has anything to do with the texting plan you've got. I'm on a standard iphone data and text plan and it works perfectly. I believe it has more to do with rolling out the service like Hawk reported.

I'm just curious if there's a better one out now or if it just has to do with AT&T enabling the feature as we get closer to 25th... I have MMS working well on 3.0.1 software with a modified 5.1 carrier file... I had it working for a while with the 5.0 ipcc, but it stopped working when I put it in an older phone. I had trouble getting it to work with various carrier files, but I finally got lucky using 5.1 ipcc, though it took a lot of sim swapping...

wrong command....you need either 32 bit or 64 bit for windows. if one doesnt work, the other will.

I sent a picture to two people and it went through without erroring on my end. Of course the two people I sent it to have YET to answer me back.

I noticed that after I updated the ipcc file, it had filled in the MMS info automatically. The APN - Username and Password were blank.

Only thing I noticed out of the norm was, that the proxy was listed as:

66.209.11.32:80

I went to HowardForums and got my wife's 3Gs MMS working in about 10 minutes. Incredible.

It consists of running one command line, downloading one file, and having itunes update the carrier file. I did a restart and MMS was there. No settings to set - nothing. It just worked.

We are in Vegas and I sent 3 MMS from her iphone to my bold and I sent 1 back. Worked like a charm.

Hopefully it will stick. We are on a PC with itunes 8 and she has 3.0.1 on her 3Gs. We are on the family text plan.

I'm somewhat a newbie, but since no one is answering, i will try.
1- Dont think it will mess anything up, from what i've heard it will be a carrier update thru itunes, so it will just write over or use the same settings.
2-Like above, heard it will be another small update via itunes, so like 3.1.1 or something.
3- I'm not JB, but yes i think that is the only way to remove the ATT.

you are correct. You need to install MakeItMine from Cydia to change the AT&T banner. or SSH and set your own logo.

I did not get mine to work in So. Cal, but here is an issue that I'm having:I have the camera icon to send but get the exclamation error, thats fine I was just going to leave it until 9/25. but now when I try and send a sms txt to more than one person in a txt it says MMS Group and fails to send the txt. Anyone have this problem who hasn't gotten mms to work and any ideas how to fix it?

THREE QUESTIONS:

1) Would doing this mess anything up when AT&T officially rolls it out?

2) How am I suddenly going to get MMS from AT&T on 9/25? It's just going to come in over the air one day while the phone is on and not doing anything?

3) Is the only way to change AT&T in the upper left of your screen to unlock/jailbreak?

2) The update, I assume, will be a carrier file update sent through iTunes when you sync on 9/25. Or it will be 3.1.1 firmware update.

3) Yes that is the only way to change it. Sometimes when you JB and then upgrade to another firmware without JB items will stay there. (like the battery percentage on 3G iphones)

but now when I try and send a sms txt to more than one person in a txt it says MMS Group and fails to send the txt. Anyone have this problem who hasn't gotten mms to work and any ideas how to fix it?

I went to HowardForums and got my wife's 3Gs MMS working in about 10 minutes. Incredible.

It consists of running one command line, downloading one file, and having itunes update the carrier file. I did a restart and MMS was there. No settings to set - nothing. It just worked.

We are in Vegas and I sent 3 MMS from her iphone to my bold and I sent 1 back. Worked like a charm.

Hopefully it will stick. We are on a PC with itunes 8 and she has 3.0.1 on her 3Gs. We are on the family text plan.

It seems to me that those who are successful have a different texting plan then the standard iphone texting.

When you get this working post what kind of plan and texting you have.

At best the settings listed here set you up for the 25th but for most this is not going to work until then.

Also I noticed that after I install the Carrier 5 file, I have to restart my phone then shut off everything (3g, WIFI, Bluetooth) and return to edge.

I run an app like stock to make sure I can make a data connection then turn on 3G before everything works (except for MMS).

This might help some of you who seem to lose data or VVM after installing the 5.0 carrier file.

use the link of the original poster (listed in his post... not on that blog) to download the correct file. Also when you browse to it... make sure you do the drop down to select the correct file extension (not the .ipsw)

boom... when you're browsing for the file and you see the extension listed as .ipsw, you should see a small drop down arrow next to it. You should be able to change it there. If you cannot then I'm afraid I'm not much help.

I helped a friend with his and he was getting the RED ! I don't know how to correct that. From what I gather, it's just a matter of time till ATT can get to your account to change it over or whatever they do. Keep testing it.

Mines up and running on 3.0 as of last night =) I installed 4.2 carrier file first, then the 5.0 and works flawlessly! Just wish there was a Cydia app to take and import videos into my camera roll, haha.

So for those who did not pay attention to OP's link with the instructions. Here it is again. This might clear up some confusion as to why you cannot load the .ipcc file.

For Windoze XP/Vista/W7 (32bit)

click start, run
type command or cmd to bring up the command prompt.
Copy this entire command "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Right click and paste in the command box and hit Enter.


For Windoze XP/Vista/W7 (64bit)

click start, run
type command or cmd to bring up the command prompt.
Copy this command "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Right click and paste in the command box and hit enter.



Close the command prompt.

Download the modified .ipcc file from the link on the first page if you don't already have it.

Plug in your phone and open iTunes.

Select your phone in the device list.

Hold Shift and click on update.

Browse the location of your file. Select iPhone Configuration files on the drop down menu (pictured). Open the .ipcc file and click Ok.

If you followed the instructions, then you would have enabled ipcc files to be loaded manually. go back to the link and follow the instructions, but get the correct file from Papa's post.

From my count, we have someone who got MMS working with a regular text plan (not family), someone who has it on 3.0.1 (not 3.1), and some who have gotten it without even updating their IPCC. So the only real variable I see here is which tower you connect to. So I really think we should all stop losing sleep over this until the 25th.

First post here - just wanted to thank everybody for the info here. Followed the OP's instructions, and I now have MMS working on the 3 iPhones on my family plan. Prior to this, I had OS3.1 / AT&T5.0 but didnt have any MMS or even the Cellular Data Network option under Settings>General>Network.

I didnt have to make any changes to the options under Network at all - just updated ipcc file and it works.

I have Family unlimited text plan, and located in Long Island, NY.

When I fill them back in, I got the camera icon back but back to the same place...it allows me to attach a photo but then I get the red exclamation point and it does not go through. Ive updated 4 iPhones......2 on family plan text and 2 on reg plans..........They r all working here in NE Okla. The only prob is where I live my 3g service comes and goes and on edge most of the time i get the red ! error message. It doesnt seem to matter if I'm on wifi or not.

Again, it doesn't matter if you have the carrier file or if you've changed your MMS settings. The only way you'll get early MMS is IF AT&T has released the opt-out MMS option on your account.

In other words, if AT&T hasn't made either your line or your area available for MMS you can upload all the carrier files you'd like and change all your MMS settings until the cows come home and you won't be successful.

Ok, I have been using the MMS hack since July and now all my buddies are with me on the MMS banwagon. The only proplem is they have the little arrow in the bottom left corner that allows them to save video MMS's that come in and I do not. I have this arrow for picture MMS's that will allow me to save pics but not video. I am still running 3.0. Is this a 3.1 firmware thing?

I didn't know people on 3.0 had this working also. I have a 3gs on 3.0 jailbroken. I loaded the file and now have the camera button but I get the red exclamation. I can't send or receive. I entered all the settings in this thread, restarted the phone, also did the sim switch. I'm in Cali. It seemed like people who had this working were either on a family plan (I'm not) or on fw higher than 3.0. Since you have a 3gs on 3.0 with mms working, got any advice?

It seems as stated in prior posts and conformation from a ATT switch guy I know. Some places have not changed the opt out.
I am posting again the settings I used for both phones 3.0 and 3.1. You must exit the settings and restart for it to work.

jeremymobile, are you currently running 3.0 and MMS..? If so, do you have an option to save incoming video mms's like you would with incoming PIC mms's?

I hope this has not been covered yet.
I am running OS 3.1 and am on a Macbook with OSX. I entered this as one entire string "defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE" in Terminal and hit enter.
Opened iTunes and selected the "Payload" folder then ATT_US.ipcc and navigated to the "English folder. Two files come up but neither can be selected. What am I doing wrong?

Also, I am using Safari but have disabled "auto open safe files". What am I doing wrong? My apologies if this is a juvenile error.

I am using 3.1 I did my brothers 3.0 . On 3.0 it does not allow you to save them but 3.1 does.
