When I connect my phone and up comes iTunes, once in awhile I get that basic window display that shows the data of my iPhone, e.g., serial number, OS version, etc., and across the bottom the colored strip showing storage use.

But most of the time the iTunes window displays the apps that I have. How do I bring up the basic display?

Click on your iPhone in the left column, and then on the "Summary" tab at the top.

Hi
I synced again. I do not get that window pane. I use to but as I said above, the only pane I get now is the pane showing all my purchased apps.
How do I get to the pane you sent me a pic of? I use to get it.
FYI, iPhone OS 3.0.1 and latest iTunes update.
