AT&T promised iPhone users they'd get MMS support by the end of the summer, and it looks like the company finally plans to deliver on September 25.

Apple said that MMS, or multimedia messaging, would be supported in iPhone OS 3.0 when the company gave developers a preview during its annual World Wide Developers Conference in June. AT&T, however, warned iPhone users that they wouldn't be able to take advantage of the feature until late in the summer.

AT&T's announcement left a bitter taste in many U.S. iPhone owner's mouths, especially since their counterparts in some other countries were able to start using MMS much sooner. AT&T, however, took away some of the sting by announcing that it wouldn't charge extra for MMS if users have a text messaging plan.

MMS will be available to iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS owners. First generation iPhone owners won't be able to take advantage of the feature.

The addition of MMS is good news for iPhone owners that have been impatiently waiting to find out when they would finally be able to start using the feature. Unfortunately, the company still hasn't announced when it will enable iPhone tethering, leaving many users just how much longer they'll have to wait for that feature to be enabled.

I don't wish to be rude, but this subject has been covered in numerous threads since the news came out early yesterday.
