I just got this battery backup charger from monoprice ( http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10831&cs_id=1083110&p_id=5866&seq=1&format=4#feedback ) and I love it. It charged my iPhone back to 96% and it is now displaying the following msg:
"This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone.
Charging is not supported with this accessory."
What does this mean? Has anyone else got a similar msg with other batter backups?
clean out the connection ports. Something is blocking one of the pins from making proper contact.

3G or 3GS? If it's the latter, I think this means that the charger is designed for a 3G, and the 3GS draws too much power for it. I get this message from the gitgo with my old V1/3G battery charger on my 3GS.
You might be able to charge it most of the way, but I believe this is why you are getting this message before it is finished.

Thanks! It is a 3Gs. I will clean out the contacts ...

20 bucks for an 2,200 mAh battery? That is a great deal and the highest portable power I have seen yet. The site says that it's for both the 3g and 3gs, so like others said you probably have a contact problem. Nice find btw.

I found out that this error msg only pops up when the backup battery is empty.
So far I love this product: It provides one full charge for the iPhone, does not make the iPhone too bulky or heavy and it even has a cut out for the camera lens. And the price makes this a no brainer ...

I'd get it if it weren't a case...

I have received this message quite often with my iPWR battery backup. it usually occurs when the iPWR battery is low on power. I have contacted the company president and he has re-calibrated the batteries for 3GS, even giving me free ones to test and keep.

This is very similar to the one I paid $7.00 for on eBay. Mine is 1900 mA. It is nice to see so many third party vendors selling these accessories. It makes it much better for the end user as prices are quite competitive. Why pay Richard Solo 70 bucks when you can buy one for $14 that is shaped better AND has more juice!!!!

It seems battery manufacturers haven't agreed to a too-high price point and are actually competing with each other. I wish the case manufacturers would follow suit ... $30 for a hunk of plastic is simply ridiculous.

I agree 100%. You have to be nuts to spend $30 for a case. The most I've spent on a case was $10 and it was a Griffin with a special lens that allows the camera to take closeups. There are quite a few sites that sell cases very, very cheap (less than $6) and they're not bad!!

Well I spent $30 on the Innocase II because it's the best ;) But I agree with you. The thing is really worth $5 to the end consumer, tops.
I also have a $5 iSkin Solo knockoff that I'm enjoying very much.
While I agree that the prices are outrageous, you simply cannot ignore good protection. I have a slider on my case and I have accidentally dropped my phone 3 times now- the worst in a tile floored bathroom. Not a scratch.

Oh, the case definitely pays for itself when you drop your 3GS on the base commissary floor and the iPhone doesn't have a scratch on it. :ok:ok
