View Full Version : Summers over. I want my #$@^&(! MMS!!

Something needs to be done about this At&t/Apple MMS fiasco.
Everyone was promised MMS at the end of summer. Well its the end of summer and summer has been over for one week as of posting this. As soon as school opened summer was over.
I find it so embarrassing that "budget phones" can MMS yet a premium phone cannot. There needs to be a lawsuit now. Misleading *advertising* the public about an additional feature for a phone then advertising it in press conferences in hopes of selling more devices is fraud.
All i can hope is they bring is within the coming week for no additional charge or someone is bound to draft up a class action against At&t/Apple yet again.

Summer's not over yet. Technically or vibe-wise really as labor day is next weekend and that's the unofficial end of summer. But technically they have until late Sept.

From what I've read, it's most likely going to come out in the next couple weeks. If it doesn't, well.... I can't make any threats, cos I'm not gonna leave ATT over it, but I'll be pretty disgusted with them. I want my MMS too. I find it beyond ridiculous that we still don't have it.

If they've made a pledge to give it to you by the end of summer and they don't perform then I think you guys should get some sort of compensation. It's a little daft as a massive network can't muster themselves and sort MMS out. It can't be that hard.... right?

Lol, I hope you were joking, summer doesn't end when school starts. It ends when when there is a location on the equator where the Sun can be observed to be vertically overhead. Technically, they have until 21:18 on 9-22-09 UTC to give us MMS. Until then, we can't call them liars.

Hes right though. Just because you start school doesnt mean summer is over. I started school a week ago also, but there are still schools that dont start for another week or so (but that doesnt mean it will come then). They probably wont do it till September 22 or a few days before because that is the calendar end for summer.

Besides, AT&T never specified the end of summer on which planet.

I agree it’s about time they roll out MMS, but I don't know when the school year started dictating the seasons.
As for the lawsuits, you missed a couple threads.

LOL @ thinking it's AT&T's fault.
It's been said before, Apple didn't want iphones to have MMS capabilities so they had AT&T set up an MMS block. Now Apple is trying to allow MMS but APPLE needs to update the iphone to support it. It's as easy as flipping a switch for AT&T (since obviously almost every other ATT phone can MMS), not as easy for Apple to 'perfect' everything.

The phone was already updated to support it with 3.0. So at this point, it is AT&T.

But it is AT&T's fault. Other carriers around the world already have MMS working on the iPhone's current firmware. This slide was shown when MMS was announced, and these were the carriers who were going to implement it right away - AT&T was notably absent on that slide, and that's when Phil Schiller said AT&T would offer it later this summer.

I think at this point at&t is ready and it is apple making us wait the iPod and music event coming up so they can make a big announcement about 3.1 and mms for americans rather than quietly releasing 3.1 with full mms functionality.

Everyone that keeps saying "you waited 2 years, why not a few more days/weeks?" just doesn't understand. It's like a kid at Christmas. They wait all year for Santa to come but they always get a lot more excited the 2 or 3 weeks before christmas and cant wait till that one day. There's nothing you can do about the way you feel, that's just the way it is.

just like ppl are complaining about MMS... ppl will be complaining come next year, when Apple has another WWMDC or whatever they call that big event they have in June, and they release a newer/better version of the iPhone..
Everyone who got subsidized on the 3GS will be complaining about how they deserve a new one, and blah blah blah, yackety yack yack..
I was one of the ppl who waited.. I still have my 3G, and though I hear the 3GS is great, I too wonder 'what's next?'... Will Apple reinvent the wheel next summer and come out with a whole new LOOK to the iPhone.. not just a software upgrade, more speed, and a better camera (i'm being facetious here)...
I didn't want to run out and drop down the money for a 3GS, only to have a brand new phone come out again next summer, and I be literally stuck in a conundrum of whether to pay full price for the new hotness, or complain about not being able to get it at upgrade pricing, another year...
I fear should Apple do what everyone thinks they're going to do, we will have more complainers next June, whining about how they bought the 3GS with little to no knowledge of Apple producing another version the next year... as they've done just about every year... LOL
I can wait for MMS... hell, I've waited this long... what's a few more hours/day/weeks/ or even MONTHS...
Sure, I'd like to be able to get picture texts, but I honestly believe that everyone who sends me picture text also has an email address from which they can send me the same picture, via email... or even text it to my email address, and I get it via email, and not MMS..
but anywho... I just felt like posting... i hope you guys are happy when MMS gets here... but I fear that there will be SEVERAL complaints about that too, when it arrives...
"it's not fast enough"
"it doesn't allow for big enough pics"

Wait it can't do this, what is the point of mms then :dft012:wink
I am still waiting on Napoleons toothpaste dispenser, now when is that gonna happen :dft011:wicked_smile
I do agree that there is going to be something people will complain about when we actually do get mms. At this point I don't see what all the fuss is about since they said late summer and summer isn't over yet. Yes we could have had it with the rest of the world, but we don't so get over it because they will give it to us. I used to complain about it but gave up because where is that going to get me, nowhere.
As for the new phone coming out every year. If you don't know that by now then maybe you shouldn't own any apple products or try wikipedia-ing the ipod and see how many of those there have been since it came out and that will give you an idea of their yearly release schedule style. I didn't even take a second to complain about not being eligible I decided I must have it then went into problem solving mode and got myself a 3GS for the full subsidized price. There are no ways around some things like when you sign a contract saying you will get a subsidized phone every 2 years, so you might just have to pay up if you can't find a way around it.

Assuming the world doesn't end, a new phone will probably be released in June/July, and likely every coming June/July. You don't need to time it right to get the best one. Just get a new one every year. They're free, or at least very close to free. For example, you buy your first iPhone subsidized for $199. The following year, you're only eligible for the middle tier pricing (since your account is not >$100 a month) which is $400. So, you sell your original phone that you bought for $200, for $400 on eBay and buy the new one. That upgrade is free. The next year, again you are eligible for The middle tier pricing. You sell your phone for $400 (which you paid $400 for) and buy a new one for $400.
You break even, and even if you can only sell it for $350, getting a new iPhone for $50 every year is worth it, right? Some people actually make money doing it this way. You might be able to sell it for $420 if it's in great shape. I never understand why people try to justify if upgrading is worth it. How something that's free not be worth it?

Actually, i'm on a business account, or what you refer to as a FAN number, so I'm actually eligible for an upgrade EVERY YEAR... but I didn't see the 3GS as being that different from the 3G.. at least for MY particular uses..
Before I got the 3G, I had a Motorola Q, which had MMS and Video, and while I used MMS a lot, I rarely used the video capabilities.. a better camera would have been nice to have, but I wasn't much for complaining about the quality of the 3G camera, which was pretty sufficient to me..
I say all that to say, I don't really need the new hotness EVERY TIME.. Especially when the "new hotness" is so similar to the old version, with a few tweaks that I probably wouldn't have really taken advantage of no way...
If the next version has a new LOOK, I'll probably spring for it, but if it's just software and minor updates, I will continue to own a 3G, despite being eligible for the upgrade..
I understand your logic of buying it and selling the old one on eBay or Craigslist, but to go through all that, just to get a new phone every year, especially a phone so similar in capabilities to the old one, seems like way too much effort.. Minor updates :022:really
A new look is what's important, huh? Honestly, I could care less about a change in look. It's what's inside that matters. The increased speed from the faster processor and doubled RAM are enough reason to upgrade IMO. The camera, video recording with editing and direct uploads to Youtube, compass, oleophobic screen, more storage space, etc are just bonuses. Upgrading is a no brainer...especially when it's free.
