I decided to sell my old 3g 16 Gig thats been sitting in my shelf for months. I had got water in the charging port(Still worked just wouldnt charge). Sent it out to be fixed. Worked great for months. Then one day just stopped turning on.
So I got pissed and bought another phone from someone on this board.
I have no need for it so, what do you guys thinks its worth(and no i wont sell it for $1 or some other retarded #)?
Is 300 good?
Thanks

Hmm.....let's see.....
1) An 8GB 3G is now only $99, & a 16GB 3GS is $199. So, I think a mint condition 16GB 3G would be worth about $149.
2) Yours is damaged & won't even turn on.
My Opinion: You'll be lucky to get $49 for your phone. If it doesn't even turn on, I seriously doubt anyone will buy it.
Put it on eBay & start the bid at $49. I would sell it for whatever you can get. I don't think a phone that doesn't work at all will be worth much (definately not $300).
Good luck selling your phone :D

It depends if you sell it to someone you know or not.
Would you buy something that doesn't work?
If so I have a few non-functioning items I could sell you.

I do believe $300 is a stretch, but you would be surprised what some will pay for a "broken" iPhone. Put it on ebay and let the dice roll.

Actually, that's not how it works at all. A new mint condition 3G is worth more than $400.
You can buy a new one from Apple or AT&T for the prices you quoted there, but that does not mean those prices have anything to do with the actual value/resale value. Those prices are that low because they are subsidized since the phones come with a 2 year contract to AT&T.
The actual value for a new 3GS is $600/$700, and that's the price you'll pay for one at an Apple Store if you don't want a contract. Because of this and their popularity, you can buy one, use it for a year, and then sell it on eBay for more than you paid for it. For example, if you bought a 16GB 3G in July 2008, subsidized for $299 and upgraded to a 3GS in June 2009, you could easily make about $100 by selling the 3G on eBay for around $400. The reason you can get so much out of them is because the buyer isn't locking themselves into a contract and they can unlock it and use it with a different GSM carrier.
That being said, his is damaged, so it's not worth as much.

Damaged I'd say you could get around $100-150
...only a guess
Some people are good at fixing electronics. Buying a $100 damaged iphone, fixing it and then turning around to sell it for twice or triple the amount paid is easy profit.

Seems like a good guess to me. :dft003:coolkid

I totally agree with Europa....I bought my 3G in December for $299.00 and then sold my V1 for $350......The used iphones command a higher then the new ones due to the contracts.

The price you are think to sell is funny. A damaged phone can not be sold at such a high price. You can try it placing in ebay. My suggestion is to demand $150 for it.

I wasn't saying that a damaged 3G can be sold for $400, I said a mint condition 3G could be sold for $400. I was trying to make a point about the discount subsidized pricing not reflecting the actual value of the phones.
This phone is damaged, and therefore I agree that it is worth about $150.

Yeah, just stick it on ebay. Let us know how much you get. At this point I'm interested to see how much a damaged iPhone will get.
Like Europa was pointing out... Apple and ATT have created an interesting market value for the iPhone. Because of the way everything is setup, I've been able to buy/upgrade from V1... to 3G... to 3GS for pretty much just the initial cost of the V1. Not too shabby.

Yeah, it's funny how many people would rather complain about how the new phone isn't worth upgrading to when the reality is that you could get a new one for less than $100 every year (often break even and sometimes even come out ahead), by selling the old one.

I would put it on ebay and start the bid at 50.00

I just sold my 3G on ebay for $350 (just yesterday actually). And it wasn't JB. I probably could have gotten more but wasn't sweating it too much.
Key for selling iPhones on ebay is making your listing prominent (pay extra to keep it up top). Because there are so many items with tags "iphone apple 3G" that my phone with just 20 minutes left was still several pages back on the listings.
